LCD or Plasma telly?
#2
I believe it depends on the size. I was looking at a 30" Sony LCD yesterday and the quality was fantastic. The 32" Sony Plasma didn't quite seem as good. The LCD was £300 more though.
From what I have been told any bigger than that the quality of the LCD isn't that great, I am yet to see that with my eyes though.

I'm looking at the same thing right now.
I only want a 30/32" widescreen as its for normal telly and not for movies etc.
I'm leaning towards LCD as there are some good ones around £2-2.5k, and I'm concerned about burn in. Maybe its exaggerated, but there'll be a lot of Cbeebies on, and that has a very bright static logo. Plus games with static images too.

My feeling is that up to 30" go LCD.
Above that I would still go for CRT - unless you're going for top notch Plasma stuff - ie above £4k. I think that if you compare a cheaper plasma to CRT you really will be disappointed especially if you compare against a CRT such as the new Panasonic Acuity 36" thingy - superb!!

Recently bought a new Sony Wega Rear-projection(yes I know!) 42incher with LCD panel.
Its not like a normal rear-proj, its very flat, similiar to a Plasma but not quite, and it looks wicked on the glass stand.
Anyway, the picture quality is superb, not pixelated like on plasmas. Being rear-proj I expected the viewing angle to be limited but you get a great picture from all around the room except when you are right in front of it - need to be about 1.5 mtrs at least back from it. Cost @ £3000, the equivalant plasma at that price was absolutely pants, LCDs don't come that big yet either so that was my choice made.
IMHO don't go plasma yet, they still too expensive for what you get.

LCD gives much better picture quality than plasma, but only available in smaller sizes. I think Samsung has made the biggest LCD screen yet, at 40".
Plasmas have a life expectancy of 25-50,000 hours, so its life depends how much you watch it. Don't believe anyone who tells you they need "re-gassing" every year - that's a con to sell you an extended warranty.
I think Toshiba do some a lovely 36" CRT if you want to keep it traditional.
