AFAIK yes you can because you need the MOT to ge your tax.
However, if you get stopped you have to prove that you were going to the MOT station, ie written appointment.

Good question I'd like to know the answer to- I have a second car here in France which I don't use but keep garaged. I've declared SORN on it but at some stage will want to drive it back to the UK and get it MOT'd and obviously taxed to cover me when I'm back in the UK. However I will be driving it off the eurotunnel with no MOT and no tax (but with insurance-which no doubt will be invalid). I'll have an appointment pre-booked but will of course be unable to get road tax until I get the MOT. Bit of a catch 22 situation- am I supposed to get it towed to the MOT garage or what?
Is there a limit on the distance to your MOT appointment- I plan to get my done approx 200 miles from the chunnel terminal.

I wonder if insurance is valid if you are on your way to the pre-booked appointment- I hope so or I'll be calling a recovery truck.
