When you subtract the one number from the other, the result is always divisible by 9. Which means that if you add all the digits together the answer must be divisible by 9. You're giving three of the digits (the uncircled ones) so it's just a matter of finding the fourth by finding which one makes the total divisible by nine. For example, if you gave 450 I reckon the other one is 0 or 9, but it can't be 0 because you're not allowed to circle 0, so it must be 9. If you gave 650 (one of the examples) I reckon the other number must be 7.
