Fuel protesters around the country have urged motorists to join a national demonstration against a rise in the price of petrol.

Chancellor Gordon Brown is expected to announce an increase of 1.28p per litre tomorrow. Every motorist in the UK is being asked to stop their vehicles for one minute at 8.30am tomorrow in the midst of the rush hour.

Not my idea, this is from the Telegraph today.
What do you think?

I will be stopping mine .....although i will be at wirk at the time so not alot of help im afraid.

Best idea i saw a while back was a nationwide boycot of one of the biggies, shell esso bp etc .... no-body buys their petrol for a couple of weeks so they have to do something, they reduce their prices, so the rest have to follow suit........never know might work???

I think most people will be stopped at 8:30 anyway. At least those on the M6,M1 and M25.

I will be around Junction 11 of the M25 at 8:30AM tomorrow so I don't think I will even notice this if it happens.

Would be a good idea... except most peoples' watches won't be in synch, so there'll be people stopping unexpectedly, and will probably cause accidents.

It's a rubbish Idea! If that's the best people can come up with then no wonder the government laugh at us.

It's not really the fuel/forecourt company's fault. They can't just lower their prices. The amount of profit they make is stupidly small compared to the huge % tax this ****-head government put on.

We need the trucker's to **** it up again - or for some car-driving sane people to get in government.

A better idea would surly be for EVERYONE to get to work using their feet, bicycle and public transport.

Everyone would be late for work, the public transport system would be in chaos for the day and the country would loose billions in revenue.

Although we bemoan the French it's just the kind of thing they would do, but over here we just say... never mind old chap quite happy to pay whatever the government tell me whatto.. and so we get whacked!

The last time we had the protests - it was quality

I know it caused all sorts of inconvienance, but it truly shows what people power can do...grind the country to a halt

I was not alone...filled up scoob to the brim, only to get a call from the dealers asking if I could drop my scoob in as they had no cars to work on(no-one could get there - no petrol ) and I wanted the work done ASAP - I ended with a courtesy car with no petrol

out with the bike - and get fit

If it will gets point across that fuel tax is still too high -Bring on the anarchy

I mean FFS the cost of running scoob has forced to me use a banger everyday! and I'll be selling scoob soon in favour of a diesel

Ali B.. people power really worked though didn't it.. I can't remember the government coming out and dropping tax on fuel.. Instead Tony gave us all a lecture on being responsible and essentially said f-hook you lot I'm in charge... G1T

I thought of getting a load of friends in a load of bangers. filling the bangers (novas etc) with 1 ltr of petrol and driving round london till they conked out, leave them in the middle of the road, with a sign in the window saying "cant afford any more go go juice, back when i have overdraft"

hehe, city at a standstill

Question

Dave P - is your glass half full or half empty? Because that's exactly what anti-car people want you to do. In fact, the correct day was Monday 22 September 2003 - European Car Free Day.

Opposite sides advocating the same action in order to get opposite results - weird.

Talking

Just pay your extra taxes and smile

Look at the lowest interest rate in 50 years, look at the low unemployment!!

Look at the new hospitals and new schools with REALLY educated kids in them!!

Come on - stop moaning and dig deep - you've never had it so good!!

I am sick to death of hearing these idiots saying cos of them we are getting new hopitals and schools.

Well listen!!!

The company i work for have built most the new Hospitals in the country in the last few years and we take on large school jobs Eg. 30 Secondary schools at once and you know what, they are all PFI

Privite finance initiatives funded by the rich, builders and banks and rented back to the goverment cos they got no money!!

And its now being replaced by PPP and thats the same thing.

I work about 5 miles from my house and the cost of petrol to cost of a bus trip there and back is stupid. No way anyone is ever going to leave there car at home, till they reduce price of public transport.

I say block the fuel depots again and all fill up with juice, worst comes to worst ill get my bike out lol

EDITED nobody is ever going to stop at 8.30 its just a news story

I don't think petrol's that expensive, myself.

It's pubs that rip people of.

I was paying £3.20 for a fookin pint last night.

just been to Tesco for food shopping !!! OH MY GOD, everyone has decided they need petrol !! Do we really think we will notice 1p a litre ??? Just go to Sainsbury get your shopping, reward points and voucher ( if they still do it mind) and get cheaper petrol to boot !!! Or when you get petrol forget the Mars bars etc, 'et voila, healthier you and you don't notice the difference in cost of fuel. I TOTALLY agree we pay to much, but we need the petrol, and stopping suddenly at 0830 is NOT the way to do it. Not fair on under paid civil servants who then have to clear up the mess of a so called protest, when the prices are gonna go up no matter what we say !!!!!

(now waiting to get roasted for this post, but hey it's just MY views !!)
I've no idea what the solution is but tomorrows idea ain't it !!!

LOL @ PSLewis:

"Look at the lowest interest rate in 50 years, look at the low unemployment!!"

haha - fek all to do with the Labour nonces - this'd be down to a global economic shift rather than any specific actions taken on our little island, me thinks........
