Be serious - no-one here lets their wife drive her own car, let alone theirs:

because they aren't worth it

If you insure it in her name then she gets the no-claims discount.

Although the insurance maybe cheaper will it cover the cost of repair and replacement of kerbed alloys and a burnt out clutch .

Pull some leads off quick and mention its been playing up all week !
Wife's cant wait for things to be fixed, the've got shopping to do, so she'll take her own.
Good excuse to take it to the nearest "specalist" and return with a bill for "necassary part fitment" such as Boost guage, TEK 2/3,
new wheels etc etc etc.........

Insurance. If the car is "cheaper" in your wife's name is that because she has an NCB that makes it so? I trust you are a "named" driver otherwise when you drive you may be uninsured. However, I'm sure thats not the case, but just pointing out if it was.

PTMW! has done 72K miles since new. My wife has done no more than 1K of them & it is registered in her name/insured in her name (all properly etc). The steps and sacrifices that I have taken to ensure she doesn't have been imense.

We moved to Cambs from London & after 2 months got her to agree to a diesel car, so that PTMW! could stay in the garage. She eventually got a job up this way, so in order that I didn't have to take the diesel & her PTMW!, I rode my bike into London for 6 months (130 miles per day) & she took the diesel. With Autumn coming up, I knew that I couldn't keep going over winter, so I made what she refers to as "Voodoo Economics" & arranged to sell the bike (GSXR750) as she didn't like me biking anyway, & to use the money as a deposit for a new Mini Cooper which she quite like the look of. Then PTMW! could stay in the garage, I could commute in the diesel and she'd have the Mini.

When I left London, I made sure that it was the diesel that was sold, not PTMW! & have been using that to commute/work and as my everyday car. I ensure that if we go out in PTMW! that I am the non-drinker (tough call that one!) & that she basically finds NO excuse to drive PTMW! I did let her have some skid-pan training with a police driving instructor friend of ours, but that was "safe"

I think she also recently, when moving, drove 10 miles to our new house from our old & back - that's it in over 3 years!!

Oh - other than the "Some B@stard Shagged My Wife" episode

It can be done Kane, just needs good planning & lots of deviousness and cunning strategy

Little Miss STi

Fortunately for your husband, you are undoubtedly a petrol-head - mine is not

Also, how can you be Little "Miss" STi if you're married? Surely you should be Little Mrs STi?

The new 17" gold wheels are called 'my wheels' now, and were paid for by HER!

REALLY took me a while to get used to it - as had vowed never to let anyone drive anything of mine after being stung a few times in 'sharing the enjoyment' culminating in dad sticking the TVR into a bridge with me yanking on the handbrake cos he couldnt find the tiny brake pedal...

LOVED it when she drove me and 2 gay mates home after a party and had them squealing with horror/delight as she booted it hard! It was sooooooo hilarious - and saved the £50 for a taxi

You'll get used to it - let go!

Isn't there an insurance issue here? I thought that if you where the main driver you had to be the first name on the insurance.

The named driver is for occasional use.

Yes, as said, technically if you drive it more than her then you aren't insured properly as you are not the policy holder.

It only takes a visit to your neighbours to find that one out!

As for the wife/gf driving it, well why not, it's a car after all?

Be proud of the fact she wants to and doesn't just dismiss your pride and joy as a boy's toy.

Edited to say- As I typed this my g/f has just performed a drive-by rapidly approaching the red-line in 3rd.

LOL @ AdrianFRST

I let my mum drive mine!!

She's a bit of a girl racer too , So I'd rather not be in the passenger seat at the time.

I just shut my eyes and think happy thoughts

PTMW- I take it you are referring to being the named driver on someone elses policy, yet you drive the vehicle the majority of the time?

If I'm correct in that assumption then I guess you also have the "ok" in writing?

It cost me £50 more to put my 23 year old girlfriend as a named driver on my fully comp policy, she was on the insurance for the STi too.

I've let her drive the current car 0 times and she drove the sti once for about 5 mins as I had managed to get myself in her bad books (again), come to think of it, im in the bad books at the min too.

Nothing that I am aware of! It's you blokes hating the thought that a female would be able to drive it as well as a bloke...... itty bitty egos are the main issue here methinks!!

First car my wife ever drove was my Terzo. I mean really first, first time she'd ever touched a throttle pedal.

200+BHP on the top of Brighton Marina multi-storey car park. The wrong exit could take you eight storeys down into the sea.

I would let her drive it in gear, and I would let her rev the throttle.

But not at the same time - thank God for tickover

Fit a dump valve, air filter and loud exhaust. My mum hates the sound of them and therefore has no desire to drive the Terzo. Doubt the Terzo will ever be seen at the girlfriends tho.
