Hi chaps,
I'm getting a T610 and want to install a bluetooth car kit.
I was told by the carphone whorehouse yesterday that Sony phones won't work with Nokia Bluetooth car kits and vice-versa, are they just trying to squeeze an extra £50 out of me or is this really the case?
Otherwise me and the missus will have to get matching phones and that's just sad!
Cheers
Dave

I thought that that Bluetooth was the same all over, how else could you use OEM manufactured headsets with different makes of phone?
It's like saying infra-red on a nokia won't be pick-up by a infra-red on a Ericsson! Rubbish, should ask them to explain it to you.

IIRC there are some features that the sony supports that do not work with other manufaturers mobiles, but the core functions are common.
I have the Sony headset and a Siemens mobile, and the only thing that doesnt work is the transfer of call from mobile to headset while phonecall in progress.

Bluetooth never actually works that well in cars, especially fast ones... Try the HCA-20 car kit then you get charging, music mute, nice cradle etc and it always works properly... and it's cheaper (If you dont want holes in the dash, dashmount.co.uk do brackets that work well)

If you have a Sony kit it seemingly does work with all Bluetooth phones (not tried that yet though) but I tried, after fitting a Nokia kit, to use a Sony phone with it and it wasnt happy at all.
So basically its the same ole story with phone kits, they still fleece ya

Got a Sony Ericsson headset and Nokia 'phone. The only thing you can't do is voice activation over it. But I have never used that anyway 'cos I keep forgetting what I programmed for people ...
However, I know the Nokia 'phones won't talk to Sony Vaio laptops. My boss changed his phone to get it to work (well, he lost his Nokia).

Carphone Warehouse recommended I stay with my existing hard wired hands free kit.
They claimed Bluetooth is unreliable and I believe them as my Nokia 6310i and Motorola Bluetooth headset disconnect after 50 seconds, nearly every time I use the damn thing.

Thanks for the replies fellas,
Problem is, I'm worried about the new hands free legislation coming out, and I also want to buy some new toys!
I've already ordered the phone, but I wanted to go down the bluetooth route as when my other half buys a new phone all she has to do is get a blue tooth phone we won't have to worry about buying a car/cradle kit that only one of us can use and that is out of date as soon as I get another new phone.(we use each other's cars a lot and eventually I want to do both cars as well)
Cheers for the advice, I suppose the best thing to do is persuade to upgrade to a T610 as well and get a cradle kit, but it still means having to rip it out and change it if we get new phones in a year or two.......
Confused as ever
