HELP ... What sort of ban am i looking at ??
#1
Got caught by a camera doing 121, any one got any realistic ideas how much of a ban I'm going to get ? Had licence for 14 years, no previous for anything to do with the police, camera was on A11 hidden in lay by on other side of the dual carriage way. ?
thanks for your answers in advance.

Muppet.. 121 is taking the p1ss really... but not here to moan at you.
I think you need a solicitor asap - who will reduce the length of ban and avoid a potential prison sentance if they think you were being dangerous. Also depends on magistrates, road conditions etc.

bits'n'pieces - are you sure it was you driving?
Have you completed any paperwork (ie NIP)? If not do a search on here about speeding and how not to incriminate yourself
Bit of a ****** speed IMO

Agree - get a solicitor - but local one to magistrates (or even duty one) - not some wise guy.
I got 21 days & £150 fine for 111mph last year - solicitor I met on the day of court & cost about £100.
121 could be a bit more expensive.

personally, not knowing the circumstances of the incident i will not slatefor the high speed.
frankly mate, you will get some sort of ban/fine.
just don't get caught next time - have a look at the laser diffusers roup buy thread. bit late in this instance, but i bet i am right in saying that you would happily pay £232 not to get done next time.
as for any PC flames about to come my way, don't bother
Weava
ps: pre-supposing that it was laser - if radar i think there is a group buy on detectors as well .

Given you were going double the speed limit, you're in trouble.
You need a good specialist solicitor - try Andreas Serghis on 01273 626762, who's something of a specialist in this area. He'll give free advice over the phone, and may just save your license.
You should be able to get any solicitor you like on your insurance's legal policy, assuming you paid that £3 per year extra.
Good luck.

For 116.5 on an empty duel carriage (70 limit) in good conditions in 2002 I got a 6 week ban, plus a 300 quid fine. More than 50mph over the limit earns heavier penalties I fear. Try and find a specialst solicitor who can limit it.
Good news is when you get your license back you won't have any points on it. Losing your license under the totting up rule, >12 points in 2 (?) years, earns a pretty drastic ban, not less than 6 months !

Sorry to hear that!
I understand that over 100mph you are probably looking at an automatic ban.
I got done at 101mph 5 years ago on a Dual Carriageway near High Wycombe, very early one morning, and got 2 week ban and £250 fine but no points!
Worst thing is the Insurance companies - I had a 50% loading at my first renewal and have not been able to hire a car / van for 5 years (a pain when you move house and the wife has to drive)!
I agree with the others - get legal advice as you may get a long ban / 14 days in the clink / a large fine / have to re-take your driving test .......
Good luck.

Bits'n'pieces I think you will probably get A 6 week ban and fine, Your Age/Years of driving/clean licence are in your favour.
Hope they are not too harsh on you, 120 is easily done in a scoob especially on a duel carrageway or motorway, have no sympathy for people who speed in built up areas though.

Yeah Mark - mad! The missus cant reverse a Luton and you cant get it up to 101mph, but you are not allowed to drive it
Still. nice to see no preaching going on here - you FOOL Its not the speed that's the issue for me - its the bloody hassle of getting caught when the speed wasnt actually inappropriate.

M8, I was stopped on the M6 doing 107.5 by the sonics. 27 seconds they tracked me on the VASCAR. I went to Dumfries magistrates court in 2000, I have a fammily a good job and had a solicitor. As a plea, my nearest office is 75 miles from home and i got a letter from the company to confirm this. I was then a field engineer, meaning I had to travel to do my job "one that is also a specialst job"... The judge simply ignored the brief and gave me a 3 month ban... £150 fine that was it... I know it was wrong and plenty quick but i wonder somtimes if the court can justify someone with a fammily losing everyhting! To""£ers
Luckily I was able to work from home for 3 months but it was very close!
Good luck but expect 3 months! + the insurance sting afterword!

not true about automatic ban for 100 plus mph.
I got done for 100.3 mph on the A1m dual carriageway section. Last month i went to court and got 6 points and £100 fine.
And insurance has only gone up by £67.

The magistrates have some discretion about imposing a ban between 100 and 110, but over 110 you will definitely get banned.
Same story as Dazzer and my earlier post, no points on license in 16 years of motoring, 40 miles commute to work and travelled as part of my job, and letter from my MD saying my job was in jeopardy if I had a lengthy ban. 6 week ban.
It was literally impossible to get to work by public transport so I had to move house for 6 weeks, paying mortgage and rent, but no petrol !
