bicycle contraptions - OMG!
#1
Bound to get flamed by the biking fraternity on this, BUT...
have you seen those trailers contraptions for kiddies?
the ones that attach to the back of parents bike, so that they can ride along the roads with their off-spring being towed, sat in back of said device?
i cringe whenever i see these god-awful things.
if someone was to run up the back of it, the consequances are unthinkable!
talk about recipe for squashed child.
i am not into biking, but if i were i would NEVER consider putting my sprogs into such.
am i alone in thinking these dangerous contraptions defy the sanity of theparents who buy/use them?!?!

I am a cyclist, but I have to say that to allow anyone, of any age, on the road with no formal training, no requirement to know even the basics of the highway code and no insurance is ridiculously nieve (sp?).

A few months ago a 4yr old girl was injured in one of those trailers during a road rage attack. Whether the trailer itself increased the dangers of being driven over by a land rover is debatable however.

I think everyone should be forced to spend a year as a cyclist before being granted a provisional driving licence, it would certainly change people's attitudes.
To balance things out, you should be allowed to run over any cyclist that thinks riding two (or more) abreast is OK and that he owns the road or that thinks he looks good in lycra.

I personally agree with the comments made regards bikers not given enough room on road etc.
this is in no-way an attack on cyclists.
however, i just feel that IMO i would not have a child in one if i was a cyclist.
also agree that two abreast, be they horse, bike, pedestrian is extremely dangerous.
the thing i hate about the bike trailer things is the faith that the people that use them on the road have in other car, lorry drivers.
like i say makes me cringe when i see the flimsy, feeble looking things being towed along.

one other thing - it amazes me how the users on SN have the ability to drag up relevant stories relating to discussions on this board.
it seems the powers of resource on here are nothing short of endless!
top stuff!
