A river licence that is!! The Licence you get when you register your boat.

The cost to licence a little dinghy on the Thames is £48!!! No wonder most people who have small boats just don't bother!!

Now, what powers have the Environment Agency Inspectors got?? I sat by the River Thames today and watched the inspectors in their River Launch have a go at those with small dinghies - what a bunch of Jobsworths!!??

My boat was quickly hauled out the water and disguised!!

I want to know what they can do?? They even took pictures of the family groups!! Isn't that illegal?? What if you say your name is Mickey Mouse?? what happens?? whats the penalty anyway?? is it a criminal offence??

Any pointers to info to help me understand??

Get a license m8 or you are no better than all the other saddo law breakers on here with decatted exhausts etc. I don't know much about rivers but that money probably goes towards helping out with some stuff you appreciate and take for granted such as paying for the bloke who fishes dead dogs out of the water.

i think they should also have to take a test and know the basic water way rules

i spend a fair amount of time on the water and see many stupid people putting themselves and others in danger

Plenty of people get away with far worse .... take that Gypsy that burgled Tony Martin .... he has suffered very little, robbed LOADS of people and then WE pay for him to make a claim!!

This is the way its going, normal honest hard working people are going to start revolting, starting with mass non-payment of the council tax ......................... but, in a smaller way - NOT paying for a Boat Licence!!!

They can impound your boat and hand it over to people with real power, who charge you a daily storage fee etc etc until it is not worth your while trying to get it back. They then sell the debt to a debt collector and report you to experian/equifax/stubbs and soon you can't even get a PAYG mobile phone cos your credit score if fekked.

They have basically similar annoyance factor private firm wheel clampers.

When I was a Scout canoe instructor we used to get hassled by the river authorities for not have our scout canoes licenced, Scouts are a registered charity WTF should we pay to use a canoe on one of our rivers. If we got hassled we just droped over the nearest wier and disapeared which pi$$ed them off even more because your not supposed to shoot wiers
