I have had my car off the road for approx 3 weeks. I filled in a SORN but now I want the car taxed from next Tuesday onwards.

Will I be allowed to pay 12months + 8 days, or will I get charged for a 2 weeks, or a whole month extra.

I've looked on the dvla web site and cannot find anything.

Anyone have any idea?

Try taxing it at a VRO (Vehicle Registration Office). The post office will be no good in this sort of thing. You can certainly buy extra weeks if you are taxing a car from new.

Surely most others would just pay for the partial month? I would

Well the post office would not let me pay for an extra week, said it was impossible to issue car tax like that and it had never been the case. Either pay from Sep onwards or Oct onwards!

Funny how I have a tax disc from a few years back that started mid month when I bought the car new.
