I think its appalling, they collect information about you then when you ask what they have, they want YOU to pay for it!!! Total W*nk.

Try http://www.checkmyfile.com - it's free and you only have to register!
I found it a great help!
One tip though, use a Landline for the main contact address & you will always get a better score

Exactly Steve, so why should you have to pay to know what companies are collecting about you! Its your personal details and you should be entitled to it anytime you want. You cant stop them collecting this info and its an invasion of privacy basically, yet you are the one who has to pay them

it is worth it, i got one done and they have loads of info, musta been about 10 printed pages then postage costs etc and processing - doubt they make much/any money on it.
you don't have a "credit rating" - just a credit report on which each institute will place their own rating
there have been some very good comprehensive threads on this only a few months ago - go look

I tried that checkmyfile and found it to be no use unfortunately. Have just coughed up the coppers for this credit check. Its a fecking rip off though, there's no way it costs a fiver or whatever to print out a letter and send it.

the whole credit industry is not a charity....if you dont want to pay for it dont...but dont expect someone to just give you thousands of pounds and assume you will pay them back.
if some comapany is good enough to store my data so i can easily apply for credit then thanks very much..im not gonna moan about a £2 fee....in fact maybe moaning about £2 should be noted on your record

Well dont know where you lot are trying but I had 1 free one and two paid for (@ £2 each) and they are both very helpful.
The only problem with Experian & Equifax are that you get details of all alias names and related names who have lived in your address.
This can be altered but you need to write to them etc.......

i had a problem with my credit rating. i paid my £5 to Equifax and the mountain of papers they sent me told me fa about why i couldnt get an overdraft extension.
turned out that when i moved i hadnt re-registered my new electoral address.
