The thing shows "system error" and shuts down with the lens out after its been used for a while. Half hour later it's OK! It might have a thermal cut out??

Yeah, had the exact same problem when I bought mine. Everything was fine until I put a 256MB card in it. It just couldn't seem to handle it when I was uploading photos from the camera. Anyway this happened after only a week. I contacted the online company I bought it from explained what had happened. They told me to contact Nikon cust' services which I did. They in turn told me there was nothing I could do to repair it and It would have to send it back to the retailer. This worked out fine for me as the online company upgraded the replacement to an 885 f.o.c (and people don't like buying online...)

The Nikon website may be of help for contacting them about repairs etc etc www.nikon-euro.com

Good Luck.

Blimey! Well after getting the new camera I made sure I used a card reader to upload the pics as opposed to doing it direct from the camera. The card just seemed to make the camera 'crash'.Thats my theory anyway. No problems uploading via the card reader. Everything has always worked perfectly since..
