There's a worldwide shortage of them right now - places you might try include Jessops, Park Cameras, Warehouse Express, Ffordes, Mifsuds, Fixation and, in Germany, www.ny-camera.de (they speak English).

There are numerous rumours floating around the 'net as to why the shortage exists. One or two unsubstantiated posts suggest that it's actually been discontinued. Other rumours suggest that a new, higher-end camera is in the works. Personally I suspect that sensor production has been diverted to the new 300D, leaving a temporary supply problem and nothing more.

If you're desperate, there's always eBay, or you might do as well to wait and see whether the supply problem gets sorted out, or whether something better is announced.

Andy.

Hi Andy,

As usual provider of excellent advice!

I order and EOS 10D today but have been told that it's highly unlikely that I'll be able to get my hands on one for a couple of months at least. By that time I'll have travelled over to New York so I may try to pick one up there instead.

Hopefully a new model will be released by then

Good luck - just be careful who you buy from in NYC, there are a lot of cowboys amongst the reputable retailers. Check www.resellerratings.com or ask on DPReview about any shop you're considering doing business with. B&H is about the biggest and has a good rep - I've used them - but they're showing the 10D out of stock right now

Thanks for the reply Andy. Further investigation seems to reveal that there could be something a lot more interesting coming soon. In fact, I do a lot of landscapes, and a full-sized image sensor would be very useful for me so I might just hang on a while longer.

Found one! http://www.equipmentexpress.co.uk/start.htm

Never heard of the retailer before, though - up to you if you want to risk it...

Good work!

I think I'm gonna wait and see what the next month or so holds - I've got my name down in a few places so am confident that I'll be able to get my hands on a 10D if need be, but I reckon they're gonna bring something out pretty soon - we'll just have to wait and see!

I walked into London Camera Exchange last week for a 10D and they had a new one sitting on the shelf

300D looks like a good buy as well but it wasn't chunky enough for me

Sample piccie below from 10D (big crop and reduction in size):

Canon 10D
30 Second exposure f22

Cheers

Ian

Did you get the Battery Grip (BG-ED3) ?

If you like it chunky it's perfect. I got one with my D60 and it feels much more balanced with it.

Grip is on order along with a few other bits.

I tried the grip (guy in LCE has a D10 as well and loaned me his for half an hour) and also found it to balance up the camera as well. Not just when actually shooting but also when messing with the controls.

Hence it is ordered

Cheers
