Unhappy

Same approach as you did -- early in the week and early in the day, in a neutral office.

It's not nice but it's business. Not doing it face-to-face, or telling someone late on Friday etc is pathetic.

I was told in person with about 5 others. After the meeting we were called back in individually and told about our pay offs

I went home surprisingly happy

In person is the only way IMO. Who was the company that did it via text messages?

Darren

Hi,
Just wanted to ask all those managers and employers out there how they would handle the sensitive subject of redundancy?

I have just been put onto redeployment (provisional redundancy) and was told, over the phone, on a Friday night before I went off on a weeks holiday. A colleague of mine was left a voice mail at 7pm on a Friday night!

Last year I had to make some people redundant, my approach was to:
1, ensure it wasn't on a Friday
2, make sure that I travelled to their base location
3, take them to a private room which was not in their normal floor/area
4, explain it carefully and give them time to react, then let then go home if they want to so that they can let it all sink in

Bit of a no brainer really, but what appraoch would you take?

Thanks,
Darren.
