Question

My girlfriend needs a cheap (read: very cheap) reliable car for over the winter whilst her pride and joy beetle is in storage.

What are Justy's like? Reliable as other scoobs?

Anyone had exposure to a Nissan 100nx ?

Any other suggestions? Don't really want it older than say a J reg. Any other places to look except Autotrader/findit/fish4/e&m ??

Cheers,

Andy

Cavalier? very reliable, though there are cheaper cars insurance-wise. Millions of taxi drivers can't be wrong!

sw69: she doesn't want to have anything that old - and I've had a couple of bad experiences with old golfs

The pug is a good idea, and i have suggested it to her!

Oops meant to say - under 1000 really - but less if possible because she's paying (for half of it) out of her uni loan, and needs to get her to uni !

I might get one cos i'm putting way too many miles on the scoob. That was the reason for throwing in the question bout the 100NX, justy would be too slow for me i thinks!

Insurance not a problem (even though a 100nx is gp13) as her mom is insuring it with 723892378942379238yrs no claims! She can insure mine too i think LOL.

her mom is insuring it
I suppose you know this is not allowed and that the insurance company probably wouldn't pay out if she needs to make a claim? Just checking...

It's a shame your gf doesn't like cavaliers Andy, a friend of mine has an old 'C' plate one he bought for £30. Although everyone jokes that its a bit of a banger the car's as good as gold, just sailed through the MOT with no work required and would get you all round the country. If anything major goes wrong with it, he'll through it away and get another one. Cheap motoring

Micra - great fun for what it is, gearshift handling excellent for the type of car - makes a new 206 look poor in comparison. Very reliable too.

Might have one for sale soon (wifes)

Cheers

Its her mom's and her car. My thread title was just shorter. They are going halves on it.

I just got a quote for me on a 100 NX, TPFT £1500 !!! ARRRGH! That's the runaround idea for me out the window. £1100 on a Pug 106 1.4! Unless someone will insure me on both and honour my NCB.

Andy,

It still needs to be insured by the main driver, regardless of who owns it.

If her mum insures it and your gf is the main driver, the insurers may refuse to pay out, if they find out.

Her mom will be the main driver i would have thought. It's just that if she needs to go to uni in it any time its gotta work!! She usually catches lifts with her mates though.

I started the thread of as find a car for her because she's been given the task of choosing it, given only a few "not allowed"'s.

Her insurance would still be less than mine cos she is a girl GRRRR.

Her mom wanted an Astra, but got shot down LOL.

She has a sky-blue A-reg fiesta atm, which is perfectly good runner (30k miles!!) but is now rusting to a death. It wont make another winter!
