Hello
I have crashed because of a deer. It ran out in front of me and I had to swerve going up an embankment. Not fun.
A friend of mine had a deer run in to the side of his car. It left a HUGE dent, the deer was fine but a little concussed. Just leaving him to explain on his insurance claim form that a deer attacked his car.
So I drive very carefully across Ashdown Forest these days, especially as August is when all the young deer try and prove the survival of the fittest (Darwin) theory.
Steve.

Sad news. It pays to be careful, those signs with deer/moose on them are there for a reason. Unfortunately when you hit these beasties head on in the average car you simply sweep their legs from under them and launch them over the bonnet onto your windscreen/roof.
There are often "demo" cars to be seen around here taken from post-impact scenes intended to make folks think about the consequences of hitting one. Usually they're rather flat on top...

I hit a big red stag some years ago near Clumber Park in Notts. I was belting home in my E12 Beemer 528 in the dusk when this stag jumped from the right, hit a car coming the other way and then was knocked in front of me. I was doing about 70 when I hit it and did not know what it was since I was blinded by the lights coming towards me. The stag was done for as was the car, I reckon it said a lot for the car that I got away with it. The stag was the size of a smallish cow. It was a lesson for sure that those signs are worth taking notice of.
