Question

Sorry for not posting this in security mods, but if you could please leave it here for a while.

Last night 3 blokes tried to steal my Scooby (STI4) at 1am.
I have a Toad AI600 alarm fitted, imobiliser and tracker, but they still had a go.
Luckily I had the window open and heard them pop the bonnet (I'd just gone to bed). The alarm was not triggered.
They ran off when I shouted, good job, cos the gun was next on the list!!
I scouted around the area for about 1 hour, but didn't manage to track them down.
Police were not interested as no damage was done to the car.

Anyway, my questions is, does anyone know how good the Toad AI600 alarms are? Will it stop them taking my baby, or should I be looking at other technology?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Interstingly I found a Subaru alarm fob underneath the car, but it appears to be a dummy. Again the police didn't even want to see it!

If you have a drive, get a post set into the end of it, if not your buggered, I think that conventional alarms are a waste of time personally and these 'boy's' have your car 'marked'. You can now get silent paging alarms which will ring your mobile if they are triggered for about £300.

Exclamation

I'd recommend a Disklok. They can be beaten, but it's a noisy process. Double it up with a Barrier Deadlock and a post in the drive and they'll look for an easier target.

If you really have a gun, a warning shot might offer more of a decentive (is that a word ??) than a shout.

Hope they don't come back m8.

Edited to add, a silent pager might seem like a good idea, but when there's 3 of them, unless you're prepared to use that gun, leave them to it.

Agree with the comments on alarms, basically if the b**tards wont your car (ie pro theives) they will usually have it. I had a mate who had his Escort cossy nicked from his garage, one car in front of it (in the garage) one on the drive, car had alarm & tracker-still bloody took it! I am just about to get an S3 & have no garage, seriously thinking of getting a wheel clamp- visual good deterants (can sometimes) make them look for an easier option. Also never advertise the Brand of alarm u have on the car as u are telling them what to have a go at. Good Luck.

Unlucky mate. That's a bit scarey given that you only live about three miles from me. Didn't think that sort of thing would happen around here.

unclebuck: Seems like we may be in for more trouble.
A camp of gypsy’s has settled on the back road between Chobham and Knaphill.
The police say that crime has escalated beyond belief since they moved in.
I've just invested in a £189 Oxford Products Monster Chain and Lock, which should keep the theiving scumbags at bay.
They might be able to disable the imobiliser, but they will have a hell of a job driving off with that thing around the wheel!

Yea, a couple of p***y types approached me when I was working in the front garden the other day with the classic "Would you loike dat tarmacced, sir?" I suppose they were cruising looking for 'opportunities' I keep the car out of site from the road so hopefully will be ok.
