Hi guys and girls,

I am a bit of a situation at the moment career-wise. Basically, I am 23 years old and everyone at my workplace is being made redundant next year. I currently am a computer support team leader and am also in the Territorial Army.

Thing is, what do you think I should do next? I have a few options really -

1.) Find some other IT related job or something else (thus keeping my Scoob )

2.) Join the Royal Marines (something I have always wanted to do, but would probably have to give up the Scoob. Also, I just feel I would be losing out on 'having a good time in life' by joining the military)

3.) Join the American Army (I have always wanted to join the Army and also wanted to live in America, so could I kill 2 birds with 1 stone? I have checked it out and it is fine for a Brit to join the US military as long as you get a duel nationality - me becoming a British American. Only thing is, I would definetely lose the Scoob and also leave everything I basically have here)

I know at the end of the day, it's up to me to make the choice, but if you were in my shoes, what would you do? I am a bit stuck and any advice whatsoever would be appreciated!

Cheers

I'd say:

IT: Is on oit's **** so get out.

Marines: My mate is in the Marines and is having the time of his life.

American Marines: Don't know much about them but I did live in the states for quite a while and the standard of living is much better.

I hope this helps.

Yep, i wouldn't stick with IT either.

I'm in that at the moment, and not happy where i am.
But there's no way i can leave to go get another IT job, far too much competition out there now.

My next move will hopefully be the Police.

Jonny.

That's what I am doing now. Completed day 1 of the interviews this month. They are doing the security checks and references now and then I am waiting to do my day 2 board interview and presentation.

Do the Marines - you'll never get another chance at it, and can always go back to IT in 3-4 years time.

A mate of mine is in the Marines and it's given him confidence, fitness, discipline, direction a choice of careers when he leaves and the best time he's ever had.
Still,you can get killed apparently.

Chris.

Training is going good. Much fitter than I was and passed the phisical with flying colours.

Waiting for the next stage now.

Jason.
