Despite being a keen runner I've noticed that I am developing a beer belly!

I can't do the crunches I used to do (30-50 a day) as they cause my back to spasm. Can anyone suggest a way of reducing my stomach so I don't resemble Alfeed Hitchock or a heavily pregnant woman . I don't want to hear suggestions about cutting out beer! Anyone know of any gadgets that will reduce the impact on my suffering back?

I've had to face up to the same issue... im three weeks in to a 12 week plan from Muscle and Fitness magazine.. weights and cardio etc.

Start with diet - you need to eat more ofter (6 times a day) and eat less crap... tuna salads not Big Macs Drink 2 litres water a day. More muscle burns more calories so your diet is then more effective.

If your getting back spasms your doing the situps wrong. Try simple crunches (you just lift your shoulder 5-10cm's off the ground - squeezing your abs) to start off with - you'll get stronger pretty quick. Don't do them daily - 3 times a week is enough.

You need to work harder on your backside and chest area. More big Macs, pizzas, pints of Guiness and less exercise. Cut out salads too.

Very quickly you will notice your t1ts become flabbier, and your backside bigger. This all helps make you beer belly look smaller.

Works for me

All the ab muscles in the world will not help if they are covered with a layer of fat.

Building muscle and reducing fat are two different things, regardless of how closely they are linked.

If you are the same weight you were 5 years ago it is probably down to flabby muscles. Try one of those sit-up frames to stop your back spasms. Also, after you have carried out the necessary 500 situps, lying face down, put your hands behind your head and raise your head and chest off the ground. Hold it for a few seconds and repeat 15-20 times. That should relieve back spasms

Do the exercises after a crate of Stella, you won't notice back spasms then.

Best of both worlds.
