Nice attitude.
Tell you what, lets hope all the "monkeys" leave, then Halfords can close and you'll loose your 20%.

And no, I dont work at Halfords.

I've got nothing against Halfords...
Always open late and on Sundays for when you run out of polish, or you've lost a spanner and need one quick.

And you can't argue with £7 for a 100ml bottle of touch up paint made up while you wait. Fantastic match and no one points at my stone chips anymore...!!

Mind you, saying they can't fit a stereo in a Scooby made me laugh. Their staff don't have the right training. So I fitted the head unit. (MY00, single din, slide it out slide it in... hmmm)

Hmmm yea, I got a stereo from them once (never again!). Sony headunit and 10 Disk changer. While the fitting was ok (it was free so I went with it), I was outside in the car park sitting in my mate's car waiting around for 30mins and this blue Scooby went whizzing past (in the car park mind).

It was mine - I went straight into the garage to ask why my car needed to be driven at all (let alone over 40mph in a car park), they really couldn't tell me and nor did they argue when I refused to pay full price for the stereo and got it for £200 less.

Hope they fired his a$$! Never been back to that branch since.

Halfords isn't the sort of place to go to for specialist advice, is it... it's the sort of place to go for when you know what you want and you want to get it quickly.

It serves a purpose, otherwise it would have closed down by now...

Blue_Boy - that's SHOCKING, but shouldn't be taken against Halfords... the guy who did the install was obviously a cheeky **** and I'd have smacked him one when he got out of the car and stood next to his manager WHILE he fired him.

With the exception of neccessary road tests after work on the car - suspension upgrades, servicing etc - only 1 person has ever driven my car. And that was my girlfriend, yesterday.
Certainly not a gobsh1te who installed my head unit!

Dark blue, why say it shouldn't be taken against Halfords ? While in the employment of Halfords it is their responsibilty to ensure he acts in a suitable manner.

Scooby-Doo... I agree with that, but if I turned round and smashed up my office now (working late) I think it would be harsh of our customers to stop buying their insurance from us!

One man was totally out of order and should have been punished in the highest order - loss of job, as you say. It doesn't mean that all of Halfords should be treated like ****.
But I can totally understand where you're coming from - if it happened to me I'd hold a grudge against them for the rest of my life...!!
I think you should go back to that branch though, just to see if the t0ssers still working there and if he is ask the manager why... I'd see to it that he was dismissed because he is bad for Halfords nationwide.

I object to this thread in the strongest terms, on the grounds that it's offensive to monkeys.

LOL with greasemonkey

I think Halfords is excellent - as mentioned before, you pay for the convenience, but dont look for anything exotic from them.

The kids vote Halfords a hit! (especially when my p/steering - alternator belt stripped big time and they had a replacement belt ins stock at 8.30pm when I went in - cool!!).

Can I just add I have had a very bad experience with a Toyota dealer over the turd of a car that I purchased.

I will never buy a Toyota again

Toyota's moto should be "Save time on Sundays, buy a Toyota....you can't polish a turd"

Bad experiences can do that to you... A friend of mine will never buy from Vauxhall again (why he ever did in the first place was a mystery anyway!)

Luke - I know what you're saying, and this is one of the biggest complaints against halfords (along with price) but you don't expect the spotty git in tesco to tell you how to make your curry and I treat Halfords the same way. I buy what I want for my car and bike off the shelf and the people in the horrible orange uniforms are there to tell me what isle it's in and take my money. Just like any other shop.

When i'm not sure about something, or want advice I go to Scoobysport, or Impreziv, or TSL... a knowledgable specialist, not a teenager earning a few extra pennies so he can drop his Nova...

Quick note - hope noone thinks I'm having a go at them or trying to start an argument, just stating my opinion is all...

Exclamation

I've nothing against Halfords when I find myself crawling under the Westfield on a Sunday afternoon, covered in oil and grease and finding myself in need of a left-handed, imperial sized grobble wrench (or some other tool that, miraculously, I've not had to buy on some other occasion and isn't included in sets of other, similar tools that I DID have the foresight to buy).

That said, the one thing I can't explain is why they don't sell nuts and bolts. My Westy's suspension is held on with 1/2" UNF nylocs, yet they don't do imperial sizes at all, and their metric range is dire and overpriced. Camberley Auto Factors don't sell them either. What is wrong with these people?! Am I the only person that ever rounds the heads off bolts or wants to replace used nyloc nuts?!

I ended up ordering £50 worth of assorted hardware from Namrick, who sell every kind of hardware under the sun and at reasonable prices, but why can't parts stores keep something so simple, cheap and small in stock? I now have almost every size of metric and imperial nut, bolt and washer in plastic bins on my garage wall. It's not hard. Why can't Halfords?

It was my comment that caused this thread. I was only taking a lead from the ironic advert Halfords themselves used to describe their staff.

As has been said they are not monkeys but their staff on the whole know little or nothing about cars and the products they are selling. I have nothing against them, just trying to inject a little bit of humour into a thread about oil, which is frankly pretty boring to most people....

I have to admit halfords is useful on occasion, although they dont do any specific parts for my car, and theres always some idiot zooming their nova round the car park, or sticking some carbon fiber effect bog roll onto their car or something like that.

if i have to venture into the stereo section, which I really really hate doing btw, theres always someone looking at all the useless stuff - tubes that change colour that you connect to your stereo and stuff. I cant help walking by and saying (to myself) my god youd have to be a total ****wit to buy this ****. Every single person has put the item they were looking at straight back

Thumbs down

WWSD: That's just needlessly abusive of you

He's just trying to be helpful - most people don't care what brand of plugs they use. I doubt you actually know why one brand is or isn't better than another either.

Sonic - I don't think they stock any manufacturer specific items, just loads of generic stuff. And there's always a little glossy book to tell you which part code to look for for your model and year of car.

carbon fiber effect bog roll
QUALITY! I WANT ONE!! Hurrah for Ripspeed
