From the pages of the UK's finest newspaper. Be warned if you have a radar detector. I've heard of them removing the detector and smashing it in front of the owner but never a fine this big.

Well they ARE illegal out there so don't take it if you have one.
The guy was speeding too. The sun never tells the whole story so I wouldn't be surprised if the driver was driving like a nutter, gave the plod an earful so is anyone surprised that he got done?
Like plods anywhere, they'll generally use their discretion where appropriate. I'll bet there are loads of people who DIDN'T get done for having a radar detector whilst in France so go figure.

Just got back from France. Will confess to having been a little more careful this year as I have been reliably informed by friends in France that speeding is slightly higher profile out there and they are hwacking Brits on the Autoroutes.
That said in 1,500 miles I didn't see one copper on the Autoroute, but they can time you between tolls (obviously only if you take a ticket when you get on one). A pee break and coffee normally sorts this though.
The guy in front of me on the shuttle had got a ticket that morning 110 kmh in a 90 kmh. Cost Euro 90 and would only take cash.
