Why do you feel the need to take the ****?

Just because your not interested in it doesnt give you the right to throw negative comments around.

odd that the BBC gt behind it...not many sports they would cover where drug use is the norm (accept the oylmpics )

actually this is a serious point.

do the bbc know steroids are a large part of this sport and ignore it or are they dumb? the big BB contests get little big sponsership from outside the fitness world because of the drugs involved.

it would be interesting if we had a brit win the world title....a real steroid monster, lets see if the bbc get behind him like geoff capes and start sticking a heavy drug userr on question of sport and they think its all over!

T

by the way im not for or against steroids (been there done that) but i find it interesting the way the media handles/ignores issues like this.

What about Gladiators then, most of those guys were that natural you could see the compost on their feet.

Shadow, what a laugh, talk about Ben Johnson's eye whites being yellow, Shadow's matched egg yolks lol!

Get a bit more contentious now,

what about Rugby League. What a joke that is, drugs free my ar$e! Just because you do drug tests does not mean it's drug free, those that take the stuff know exactly how to mask it or stop taking it at the right time.

Some of the drugs they use are really quite scary, like human growth hormone (supposed to unlock bone growth etc) that requires you to inject insulin to combat its side effects, scareeeey

WWF and gladiators are commercial, ITV run them and make money. Also Gladiators was a few years ago now...not sure it would work now?

anyway, it would be interesting to see how a roid monster got treated by the media if he won and was a brit.....lol- imagine him at the sports personality contest!

imo i dont think competitive bodubuilding is shown on telly simply because it's not big enough as a sport and therefore not many people would watch it and so on...

if it was not being shown because the competitors are alleged steroid users then why aren't natural bb'ing contests shown? b4 anyone says it's cos natural competitors arent that big, that's bolox, some of these natural competitors have genuinely excellent physiques.

if steroid use stops tv exposure then why is arnold s. so popular and well exposed even after he ADMITTED steroid use when he was competing? it's also well known that wwf wrestlers etc use steroids.

competitive bodybuilding is considered strange by many and not a 'sport', thats why it isnt on telly.

ps steriod use has killed far less people than smoking and drinking.

Brought up an interesting issue- why not let them use whatever drugs they want to enhance performance?

I'd like to see what an olympian could do dosed up to the eyeballs on performance enhancers. It would add an extra element to the games- ie who had the best chemist. A bit like Motorsport a combination of science and talent.

your right, BB isnt on TV as most people think its for weirdos. However, in the US its big enought to attract advert money...but it doesnt get it from outside the sport.

WWF is not regarded as a sport by anyone so you cant "cheat" in the same way.

Arnold is not famous for bodybuilding, if you showed 90% of people a photo of him from the 70's they would be amazed he was ever that huge. He's famous because he got lucky...he was the biggest of the big people at a time when big people was cool (rambo, rocky, etc)

doing steroids has nothing to do with his acting (in most ppls minds) so he's forgiven. if he admited he took steroids to get in shape for T3 it would be a big deal (as it would for stalone, van damme, demi more, madonna, etc, etc) but saying he did it in the 70's is no big deal.

BUT, a "proper" sport (ie. real winners/losers) on the BBC is different.

Imo, bodybuilding (steroid assisted or not) isn't shown because unless you know what you're looking at/for, one muscular body after another just gets repetitive, ie nothing actually happens. If they can't make squash/badminton popular tv sports, they've got *no* chance with physique contests.

Arnold just got popular because he was one of the first to popularise it, plus he has the charisma to be famous even without the background of bodybuilding.

True, steroids have killed less than smoking/drinking, but i'd be interested to see what the pro rata data was, if there could ever be accurate information on such a thing.

at a guess i would say that one steroid was worse than one ciggy......the people who die are those who have 20 ciggies a day for 50 years. Likewise, the roid guys who die are on massive stacks all the time but even they would not do it for 20 years (unless you need to maintain a big movie career )

anyone hear the stat that of the 12 runners in the 1988 100m (ben johnsons gold) all but 3 (i think) have since been tested + for drugs!

Tiggs,

I'd heard that with the 100m. I felt at the time Ben Johnson was used as a scape goat because he was not a good advert for athletics compared to Carl Lewis at the time. All my HMO of course.

fair points tiggs and telboy...

on the subject of knowing whether a good physique is better than another, i can hardly tell the difference between one gymnast or one ice skater and u still see that on tv now and again...but i know what ure saying.

one steroid dose vs one ciggie? god knows which is worse...but cigs n booze are far more addictive.

no doubt steroids can be harmful but i'd still rather be an occasional user of performance enhancing drugs than be a 40 a day smoker or a 5 pints a night drinker....not that i'm any of them!

anything in excess can be harmful, even food.
