If you've ever seen it, this is the most disturbing of films. I noticed last week, it is back on sale on DVD. It had been banned for years, but now it's back.
I saw it once up until *that* scene when my GF at the time walked out in disgust so I had to follow.
Amazingly it's being screened tomorrow (Sunday) at 11.15pm on C4 so I will be able to see the rest of it.
I'm not sure could reccomend this movie as one to watch, but it's on if anyone dares

...not seen it, but might take a peek.
I watched "Duel" tonight on telly, what a cheap budget film, but i watched it right through again, suprisingly!!!

By modern standards it's really not that bad which is why it's been removed from the banned list.
It's a reasonable film, but not one worth going out of your way to watch.

BBFC banned it initially but then relented when the two rape scenes were cut to shreds. hope they are showing the uncut version. the first rape scene show susan george being forcibly made to have sex but when she get down to it she appears to actually enjoy it!!! worth a watch but would have to agree that it is pretty tame by todays standards.

yeah, it was susan seeming to enjoy it that got it banned. As has been said, compared to some of the stuff in 15 rated films these days, it's not as bad as it used to be. however, imagine yourself back in the very tight upper lipped time not so long ago!

yea not a bad film a bit tame by today standards, like most of the films that were band in the 80's. another film on a similar line is 'the last house on the left' again just been re-released

an unflinching and uncompromising study of primal, barbaric brutality that is generally regarded as one of the strongest statements about violence ever put on screen

I would say that as far as violence in films etc goes American History X was far more shocking and stuck in my mind longer than Straw Dogs. The only thing about straw dogs is it definately has a 70s "odd" feel to it, its a wierd film if nothing else!

Watched it tonight and found it very disturbing in a "you ain't from round these parts" kind of way, and you get plenty of that sort of reaction in some of the villages round yere.
Not quite as extreme though!
Still, that said, Sally Thomsett and Susan George in the same film, plenty of old crushes being remembered.
Sleep well.

UB,
That's called marketing - take it from me by today's standards it's tame - I've seen it.
What do you expect them to say:
"a pretty average film that although once banned for it's levels of violence is by today's standards pretty tame and maybe if it hadn't been banned in the first place then no one would be interested in watching it so why not do something else instead"
