Please can you leave this in here as I think I'll get a better response. Thanks!
I'm going to be looking at a car that is advertised at a dealership, I know that it was previously on a private plate and has since been been sent to the DVLA to be put back on original plates. What I need to know is where I stand as I won't have a log book as it is still at DVLA.
Car is HPi clear on original reg and on private.
Any help would be appreciated

The only problem you may have is that if there is no V5 (log book) you wont be able to tax it. Make sure its taxed for at least 6 weeks to give you some time to get the V5 in your name.
If the dealer has done the change already, the V5 may be coming back to them in THEIR name. Which means, it'll take upto another 2/4/6 weeks to get it into YOUR name.
Tip: If the dealer HAS the V5 in THEIR name, ask them to tax it for you before sending it off again to be changed into YOUR name.
Hope this helps.

Si, the garage is in south Wales so a fair drive away from me. I don't know if it's a good un or bad un, hence being a little worried about the log book.
Boro, The car is only one owner so I cant see the garage sticking their name on it. I would assume it will be sent back to the previous keeper.
Tha chap was happy enough to say I could speak to the previous owner if I needed to as he assured me he would say everything is spot on.
Hopefully i'm just worrying about nothing.

I have just been though this as I kept S600BY S when I sold my car. The new owner should have a receipt that shows he is the legal owner and the previous owner should have a signed statement to this effect so that he doesn't get any NIPs.
When the V5 comes through, it then goes back to DVLA with the transfer of ownership details.
