.. I've been offered a job with a major blue chip company, which I've accepted, so subject to a background check (which should be a formality, as worked for them before - touch wood) I will be handing my notice in roughly two weeks today!
So looks like I won't be training the guy from India and won't be out of work this Xmas!
Hoorah!

That great news mate!
Good things come to those who wait (or apply for other jobs) plus your old company has to find someone else to do the training!
All the best

Gr8 news, one in the eye for the old boss.
"As one door closes", 'n all that. I found myself out of work last year, within 3 weeks had new job with less hours, less responsibility, more holidays and the best bit, 46% more money.
Hope it works out well 4U.

If they offer you more money to stay temporarily, and if you can afford it, I would decline. You only end up miserable, and the company who have offered you the new job can only wait so long (I imagine).
I was recently made redundant, and regret the brief flash of greed that made me accept a £750 bribe to stay on another 2 weeks while the company changed it's branding. They needed me to ensure smooth transfer of website services, and frankly I wish I'd told them to stuff off!

Cheers.
I'm 100% decided that regardless of any counter offers, I will be leaving and starting the new job in approximately 5 weeks.
I've got confirmation that the background check has gone through OK and a formal offer/contract will be in the post tomorrow if possible or early next week. As SOON as I have the letter, I can hand my notice in!
BTW, I have the resignation letter already written, just left the final day (date) blank for now.
