not really the post says "off licence" and as they primarily exist to sell alcohol it is reasonable to assume that's what he was buying.
Likewise if it had read "paper shop" you might assume he was there to buy a paper, rather than the myriad of other products on sale.
Anyway personally I'd have told him where he can go and stick his attitude problem-the to55er.

.. if it is illegal or just 'not allowed', for a person working in an off licence to serve a police man in uniform?
Just curious, was in the queue last night at the local off licence, police man in front of me in uniform and the young lady behind the counter said she couldn't serve him... After a short discussion (well, ish) the police man convinced her it wasn't illegal and took his shoulder pad things off to effectively be 'out of uniform' but also asked for the managers name and told her to stop being stupid.
Felt kind of sorry for her, as she honestly believed she couldn't serve him and he wasn't that polite in return.

Hello
If I were her, I would of taken his badge number and complained to the newspapers and his boss that Police Officers were buying alcohol whilst in uniform (and possibly on duty) and not setting a good example.
Steve.

Even though she was wrong he should have been thankful that she was at least trying to uphold what she believed was the law. In our area several of the local off licences sell alcohol to teenagers who are obviously underage.
Sorry, but once again here is an example of a member of the police force being belittling and patronising when he could have handled it very differently - it's becoming a recurring theme with them I'm afraid.
tiggers.

She would have been within her rights to refuse ANYONE, personally if some jumped up snot in a uniform started getting the hump with me and I was acting in good faith I would have told him to f**k off.
There is no compulsion for any shop to sell anyone anything.

i work in an off licence and it is illegal to serve a policeman in uniform- in the same way that it's illegal to serve prostitutes and drunks (although with the drunks i'm not sure if its company policy or law)
as its a licenced premise the girl has the right to refuse to serve ANYONE for any reason.
as for the policeman- its illegal to serve a policeman on duty below the rank i think of inspector or chief inspector unless they have written authority from their superior.

If he was in uniform he was presumably on duty, and shouldn't have been doing his shopping for a night in front of the telly. Naughty boy. And then pressurising a shopkeeper to break the law. Dr Evil - did you get his number ?

Hang on, if they can't do their personal shopping whilst on duty they should be refused when buying doughnuts too

A policeman can buy alcohol whilst on duty but cannot consume it. Anyway what if he was on his way home (ie off duty).
Its about time we plied them all with the wicked stuff - sure as hell will lay into burglars more with a few stellas inside em, ey!

But lets get things straight. It should be judged by the owner of the offy. I'm sure the owner of an offy has had to call the police, usually as a result of a break-in or a robbery. The officer should be sold beer based purely on response times of that station to a robbery in progress. If they turn up next day just to confirm the crime No. then tell them what you like, however if they did everything poss to catch them them TBH its on the house, guv
