Question

Looking ti go to Nice in september and I would like to hire a nice car whilst I'm out there. I will only be there for about 4 days so I fancy something mental. Does anyone have any experience of hiring exotic cars abroad?

I haven't hired anything exotic, but when we were in Nice for the Monte Carlo Rally in January, I remember that most of the normal hire firms at the airport (Hertz etc) did have a very nice selection of performance cars - I guess it is the area they are in. Might be worth contacting them direct.

Check damage waivers, excesses and such like. In Nice they literally park by touch. Could be a costly excercise if Pierre in his battered Clio backs into it.

Not sure if they are still around but platinum hire sounded pretty good and they used to give a Snet discount

You'd probably get something 'decent' (ho hum, snigger snigger) like a Z3 or TT type cars for reasonable money. However if you want something like a porker, ferrari etc. then you'll be paying shedloads wherever you are.

But a £1000 per day! That's just mental money. 1% of the value of the car? So if I was to hire a Merc a class that would be £200 per day? Er no it's more like £200 for the week.

(Assuming a new A class is £20k which it probably isn't)

Not in Nice but last year in NZ, I hired a Z3 2.2(from a multinational car hire co.) for about £100 a day for a week (I exceed the mileage quota a LOT! though). Keeping in the mileage it was about £60-70 per day I think. Europe is probably a bit more pricey.

I haggled the above prices down though. It was the same sort of price that a Jag S type was IIRC.

Try calling/visit website for Hertz etc. and see what their prices are.

I think you will find that a 360 or similar is priced at that sort of level because:

1) they don't get hired every day
2) servicing a "renter" must cost the earth
3) they are worth a lot when sold as ex-rental vehicles
4) the people who want rent them can afford the rates being asked

Out of interest, how much were you expecting to pay?

When I was last in Nice, I think a nice Bentley Red Label was just under a grand a day

We rented a Berlingo
