I'm shocked after reading some of the threads in here, but I have a question:

You are in perfect family unit (one man, one woman, and have a baby) - I'm also going to make the assumption that you are white (not that it affects the point)

1) You're baby grows up and says "Dad, I have something to tell you... I'm a homosexual"

What would you do?

2) It doesn't matter how you answer question 1, but what would you do if you found out their partner was from an ethnic minority? (How about an asylum seeker??)

What would you do about that?

3) Assuming you had a daughter and she got pregnant through a gay male friend.

How would you react?

4) What would you do if they basically told you that job prospects were so grim, that the only way for them (their family unit) to get a roof over their head is to get a council house.

as above.

i just wouldnt care.

question 4 tho - it wouldnt bother me in the slightest if they lived in a council house. I would object however if they did this for the rest of their lives...didnt save any money to even attempt to buy/rent their own place...or same as before but were spending money on luxuries. that WOULD bother me.

if he/she then said they had a human right to have children within there homosexual family unit I would let them know my opinion.
the rest of it Im easy about.

Sorry, upon carefull reading (D`oh), I would be highly worried about 3, either, she`s having the baby for his benefit and willing to effectively surrogate it to him or, she`s desperate for a baby and willing to do it outside of a family unit... worrying

Sorry question 4 is about sponging off the state!

The reason I ask these questions, is that from some of the other threads I've read, I'd assume that some people would disown or do something a lot worse to their children!

I'm a great believer in, "if they are happy.."

if I had a son who was gay I'd be worried about him getting mixed up with the wrong crowd

I'd also not be able to reconcile the fact that he'd be 'taken from behind' on a regualar basis and vice versa

It's not the 'gayness' that would bother me but the actual physical side of 'what goes on' this I would find difficult to handle

1) You're baby grows up and says "Dad, I have something to tell you... I'm a homosexual"

A: Nothing. If it was their choice I would support them fully in their chosen path of life.

2) It doesn't matter how you answer question 1, but what would you do if you found out their partner was from an ethnic minority? (How about an asylum seeker??)

That would make no difference to me whatsoever. I am not a racist or a bigot and nor is my wife (She's from Singapore)

3) Assuming you had a daughter and she got pregnant through a gay male friend.

If this situation arose then I would be a little concerned. Only because if she got pregnant through a gay male friend then he is clearly confused about his sexuality and therefore probably unable to support either her or the child. Disscussion my resolve this though.

4) What would you do if they basically told you that job prospects were so grim, that the only way for them (their family unit) to get a roof over their head is to get a council house.

A council house is not a bad thing. I grew up in Army quarters and then on a council estate and I like to think that I have turned out OK. It's not where you live or how big your house is. It's more important that you are happy and well balanced.

Hope this helps Andy.

Jason.

paulr, yes they do.

Question 4 is not about belittling what is offered, but rather that some people here are vocal about "spongers", I just wondered how they would react if their children became one of these "spongers"!

Peter, I think my money is on number 1!!

paulr, I think you are right!!!

Some would say the person on SN who reads NSR, would have a shaved head and a bulldog on a string!!

Personally I think that people on Scoobynet should be avoided, they only seem to talk about cars!!!

Dude, I don't think this is fair but here goes....

You are in perfect family unit (one man, one woman, and have a baby) - I'm also going to make the assumption that you are white (not that it affects the point)

1) You're baby grows up and says "Dad, I have something to tell you... I'm a homosexual"

What would you do?

I don't think any parent can answer that without firsthand experience.
I'd like to think it wouldn't come as a suprise as I feel I'm pretty good pals with my kids. I'd also like to think I'd be cool with it..I have 'gay' friends. But deep down I'll admit I don't understand the sexual side of it. I can understand the emotional relationship, but sex is for making babies (ok it's also fun but the scientist in me insists its for procreation)

2) It doesn't matter how you answer question 1, but what would you do if you found out their partner was from an ethnic minority? (How about an asylum seeker??)

What would you do about that?
Absolutely no problem.

3) Assuming you had a daughter and she got pregnant through a gay male friend.

How would you react?
Do I futher assume she is gay, and got pregnant from a friend because they wanted a child?
I don't think any parent can answer that without firsthand experience.

4) What would you do if they basically told you that job prospects were so grim, that the only way for them (their family unit) to get a roof over their head is to get a council house.

I'd be dissapointed, I come from a long line of over-achievers and I naturally assume my children will be the same...thats assuming they don't have any genetic dissadvantage I don't know of yet (A.D.D. or dyslexia etc)
However the nation changed dramaticly and unemployment rose to 60% I'd be able to live with it...my kids are better than 2thirds of the population

I think I'd be cool with all of it, as long as the gay male friend wasn't Carpet Cleaner

An old_fart you may be, but I think you'd be cool with most of that!

I guess I was directing these questions to the more vocal Scoobynetters with what some would say an 'extreme' outlook on life!

I think a lot of straight men would have issues with the physical side of things

the emotional I can deal with but not the physical side

I very much doubt if I am alone in this, just I have the guts to say it

"I'd also not be able to reconcile the fact that he'd be 'taken from behind' on a regualar basis and vice versa" - CC

I think you would be suprised by how few gay men actually go in for that. Popular misconception.

If that is the way my child wanted to live their life then fair enough. I would only have their best interests at heart.

As for thinking about the physical side, do you think about your parents having sex? No, then why are you concerned about your childs sex life???

Being straight, having sex with a bloke doesn't appeal, the physical side is not my cup of tea.
BUT to a gay person it is normal and IS their cup of tea. It doesn't repluse them. They're the ones having sex with another bloke, not you. There's nothing for you to 'deal with' apart from the notion of thinking about it.

Women fancy men, can you comprehend that from a physical perspective?

Personally I don't understand why people like scoobies but each to their own eh!

CC, whatever two consenting adults wish to do to each other physically is, IMO, entirely there business, whether I would wish it done to me or not. Be they two males, two females or in a male/female relationship.

If they want to engage in mutual mutilation, thats their call.

Personally I don't see a problem.

You are indeed homophobic in the true sense of the word, in that you appear to be quite concerned (indeed phobic) about an act between two people that does not involve you in any way, shape of form.

D

ps - this is an observation, not in any way intended to be an attack.
