SCAM: "phisher" sites
#1
I just got a letter from eBay asking for account information. I don't have an eBay account.
On a whim I tried the link and found a page asking for my credit and debit card information, full checking account information, social security number (it's a US thing) and even my mother's maiden name.
Just in case any of you are not aware of this type of scam, it's an attempt to steal your identity.
And not even a mention of Nigerian fortune as bait...
Oh, a side note - I wanted to report this to eBay, but in order to correspond with them, I have to register. Back to aquare one.

I was scammed by a user on e bay in march for quite a lot of money and after that happened the user came up as "not a registered user" I complained to e bay, the e mail provider of his e mail address and the police (none of which can/will do anything about it, turns out the e bay account had been cloned. I was on yesterday and just for curiosity I entered a search and the user name is now active but appears to be a ligit account, I was tempted to post a feedback re my fraud but I dont know if I should, I'm confused any ideas?

it's not the first time that this scam's been used.
I do use ebay - only they don't ask for your credit card details upfront, they usually ask for a specific amount.

We CAN find out who runs these scams. If they can catch expert hackers then they CAN catch a nigerian e-mail scammer!!
However, it's costly to do so and you need specialist knowledge. Will the government(s) put the money and resources into policing the net? time will tell. I say yes when it gets out of control (by which time it'll be too late).
