For a starter i wouldnt bother they'll do you **** all good.

a) you need a good diet for starter's

b) from the strength perspective you need to hit your natural limit 1st. Couldnt tell you about the puffy body builders

as above get to limits first, muscle memory will sort that out, then if you still think you want to take them, start off with small amounts, it was explained in a steroid hand book, your receptors are lorry parks and the steroid is a lorry if you take a small amount the lorrys can park and everything works fine but if you overload all you do is congest the parking bays(receptors) and they don't work as well, also the receptors sites downgrade in as little as three weeks and the steroid doesn't work as well, this is where others get into trouble taking more and more but all they do is congest the already downgraded receptors, take them for a certain amount of time then have a layoff, try something different so you hit different receptors and rest the ones you've already used, there was a girl in my gym taking more than me, and the guys laughed at the small amounts i took but was the one who went on to win the titles, when all the ones that took loads stopped because they didn't like it when they lost the gains they had made and thought the only way to keep them was to take more and more

butkus, my perception of it is that u train without use of banned substances until u can no longer progress without them.

that means getting ure diet perfect, ure trainings perfect, ure recuperations perfect....and when u stagnate and no longer gain, uve reached your natural limit.

Thumbs down

I know people that have died from steroid and pain killer abuse. Don't do it, it's not worth shortening your life for.

I really can't see why people take them when there's such obvious danger!

Because they work rik. And for some people, a top flight physique is their only hope at 15 minutes of fame and fortune, so they convince themselves the risks are worth it.

Plenty of bouncers use them Si, who of course don't compete. For them, they perceive steroid use as a means of keeping their size, and therefore their jobs...

Can do rik - £100+ per night in central London. Although for lots of these guys it's not just the pay that keeps them there - the ego boost from being "feared" by the punters, the chance to ogle the crumpet, and for the psychos, the off-chance of a punch-up.

AFAIK, steroids just enable you to train harder than your body would on its own - shorten recovery time etc. They're not really a short cut, just aid you to work harder than your body would naturally allow.
No doubt I will be proved wrong by a doctor. (Rather than by locker-room hearsay).

Mungo, how many bone fide doctors would get involved with administering steriods to wannabe Arnolds? But you're basically right in what you say, although that's slightly over-simplifying the issue.

LOL at locker-room heresay! Trust me, anyone who's prepared to inject themselves with these dort of substances ought to know a lot more about them than what Big Tone said down the gym. Don't under-estimate the quality of information on here sometimes..

...forget steriods - it's a sure way to medical problems down the line.

Try something like creatine instead - that really DOES let you train harder (and recover quicker), so that the benefits you get are from the training itself, not the chemicals....creatine after all occurs naturally in the muscle in lower doses

I've been on it for about 5 years, it not only massively boosted my strength training, it also helped me shave time off my 100m

ok, so I admit I haven't PERSONALLY had any problems with 'roids (I haven't tried them after all) --> I'm not trying to wind anyone up

but I have read a number of articles in respected body building mags which don't really have a good word to say about them (apart from the short-term benefits), and have interviews with the human disaster stories who have used them

besides which, unless one IS a doorman/bodyguard, then what is the point? - very few sports will let you compete (with honesty) if you use steroids

if it's just the looks that are important, then again, I say use creatine, it makes the whole training process much more enjoyable - I am hardly a man-mountain, but went from a fit 5'8 and 11stone6lbs to just under 13 lean stone in 18 months

I'm in the opposite camp - i've never tried creatine, but i've heard good things about it.

Stroids are just one massive temptation to many athletes - the chance of glory etc. And masking agents these days which make detection harder than you'd think.

For gym bums, it's just anorexia in reverse - some guys think they're tiny when in fact they're bloody massive, so turn to steroids for the "next step".

You're right about the potential dangers though. Some people just don't/won't believe that less is more, so use quickly turns into abuse. Like any drug, that's when it becomes dangerous.

I was talking to 1 of the guys at the gym and he said that growth hormone is the best stuff to take, is it true that they get it from dead babies? does make sense that this is the time of your life where u grow the most, but think its v.harsh if it does come from babies

he was probably on about GABA its supposed to release your growth hormone while you sleep and you can take it before you train,
its not so much what you take but how much, you can die from drinking too much water, do anything to the extreme and somethings going to give, remember what lee haney mr olympia ? times said, stimualte not annihalte.
