Tiggs- Is the phone advertised as sim-free, if it is then it's okay.

spoon - do you not mean unlocked.

sim free - usually means they're keeping their own SIM card as most people do.

unlocked means open to all(most) networks.

Unlocked yes but the term sim-free has been mis-used.

It relates to a mobile phone being capable of using all networks.

Just do a search for sim-free phones and you'll see.

I too have the discontinued V50 with 2 car kits and 1 phone has just broken.

Luckily i've just sourced a brand new one.

Tiggs .. I have a Motorola V50 that's been sat in a drawer at home for the last 12 months. It's complete with charger & leather case, and very probably a hands-free earpiece and manual too (provided I can find them).

You are more than welcome to it if you'd like to make an offer?

I used it on O2 for about 12 months until I switched to Orange and a V66. It is in perfect working order, and from memory the cosmetic condition is fine - I can take some digi pics if you'd like to see it?

Andrew.

If it's a BMW factory fitted kit it wont work. BMW adapted the phones software to work in it. They charge £350 for the phone IIRC. If it's an aftermarket kit it'll be fine.

hi tiggs - check out motorola.co.uk / com and search vfor v50. If memory serves me correct a v50 is dual band and as long as it's not locked to t-mobile or orange then you should be ok !

i used to do a lot of phone trading but the v50 is a long while gone - TBH I'd get something newer or see if you can change the cradle in the 540 !

If it's a motorola car kit then it doesn't matter if it's fitted in a Reliant Robin, it will work the same.

If it's unlocked it will work on any network.

You can't change the cradle either, there is no other motorola except the earlier V3688 flip that works in the car kit.

I, as said already Tiggs am in the same boat as you, as are a few others speaking to my dealer.

That's about the size of it. It's because it's an integrated kit steering wheel controls etc.
Your best bet would be to get a bluetooth kit and phone and hide it all under the dash, the phone can then be kept in your pocket or glovebox and use voice dialling.
