Would you really take a car on track if it wouldn't pass an MOT?

i don't think an mot is all it's cracked upto be anyway, you need lights for an mot, emmisions test etc etc

You could be missing the point. Odds on a track car won't have a catalyst (MOT fail on most cars), could have slicks (MOT fail), could have no rear seats, harnesses instead of seatbelts, lights removed etc. etc.

Cool

Funnily enough there are a lot of things you don't have to have for an MOT. I was at a show next to Ed China who runs a road going sofa. No lights or indicators for examplre but quite legal nonetheless. The point is if you have lights or indicators they have to work properly. D

Fair point, but anything that was fitted by the factory when new must be operable (lights, seatbelts etc)

Road going sofas and skips don't really fall into this category and I doubt Si is proposing to do a track day on his sofa - although you never know

Harnesses are legal for the MOT. The book says something like they must be 4 point fixing with a push button release (Not turnbuckle), be propperly secured to the floor etc, and have a britsh approval sticker permanently fixed to them.

My old sunbeam has 4 pt Luke harnesses and these were deemed to be legal.

Strangely enough I've seen a road-going sofa Also has a lampstand and a TV in front of it so the driver looks like he is watching tellie when driving. PMSL as he drove by.

Has anyone else seen this guy? Fookin nutter

Some of the track days state that the car must be road-worthy and have a current MOT & Tax...

So guess they would for those days
