rik,
i've just been down barclays to open a business account
piece of pish mate, passport, bank statement, for address or driving license, and you're away.
they do ask you about the nature of the business, expected turnover etc. but i think thats more for them to build up a bit of rapport and understanding of your needs.
its quite a manual process, ie they fill in proper forms, which is refreshing and takes about 30 mins or so.
they are even doing 3 mths insurance, which is £500/month after you have been incapacitated for a month, or £10,000 to spouse if you snuff it.
if they ask you waht you are poutting into the business, list the stuff you have, in my case £6000 worth of pc's / and peripherals
that you will use for business.
they like to see that you have invested somewhat as well.
thats about it mate, i went for a trading as account from a time point of view, but will go ltd after christmas if all is well.
Dont go to the bank for business advice, go to an accountant, either informally, or use a friends accountant or something.
they will give you an unbiased opinion.
if you need any more info, let me know
and good luck
PS What type of business is it??
BB

I work for Business Link which is a national org, find your local one ring them up and ask for their Start Up Team , you should be able to get free session with a business advisor and numerous other stuff, from traning course's to info on any possible grants.
National web site = www.businesslink.org.
Good luck!

Your local Chamber of Commerce will probably have a free course telling you everything you need to know to run a business. I went on one that was about 7 hours a day over 5 days. Very informative!
