How thick are some estate agents?
#1
House is up on the market, and just as we were about to go out last night, we had a knock on the door by some people who had apparently arranged to view the house. Apart from the estate agents not telling us this, I get shown the leaflet with our house on, and my Subaru sitting in the drive. Why didn't the estate agent just say "If you want to steal this car, come and see us for the address, and we'll also show you round the house to check out the place". We were never told when the photo would be taken, so I never had the opportunity to move my car.
Before I kick up a fush and demand them to re take the photo to advertise on the web etc, am I right to feel angry and paranoid???

Steven, you should have been asked to approve the leaflet before it went out to anyone.
But to answer your question, extremely thick
Without exception.

Hello
I would say that most people wouldn't even think about the fact their car is in the photograph.
I understand why you are unhappy, but just talk to them nicely as I'm sure they didn't think they have done anything wrong.
Steve.

Our estate agent that we sold through was absolutely utterly brilliant. I can't complain about a single thing, they were excellent.
But, that is the exception that proves the rule

Rumour has it they're going to start using estate agents for lab testing instead of rats. The idea is there are more of them and you don't become as attached ;-)

Steven,
You should have signed a doc saying ur happy with the details and piccy of ur house, im having trouble with mine, i have a huge back garden, to give u an idea, its 114ft long x 54ft wide, but they never mentioned it on the advert, so im trying to get it changed cos all there sending round are Doctors and mad scientists, as im near the QMC and the university who gasp in horror at the size, and that, unfortunatley tells you that they aren't going to buy ur house.
Go back given hell and get um to change it.

Didn't they take any photos of the inside? Ours did inside, garden and outside at the same time. We were sent a draft copy which we had to sign to say that everything was accurate and we were happy with the details.
Our agents were also brilliant. Very friendly and efficient.

Don`t use them if at all possible but depends on price / area and your situation for viewings - whilst in work etc..
Have sold three previous houses without them; local adds but mainly word of mouth. Some are becoming more professional / efficient especially in Scotland where we are just about to move to.
The one time we did use an agent they were pretty good and found a buyer right off but we pulled out due to a change of plan. Small cancellation fee only.
Good luck

Wtf ?
If you wanted to steal a nice car and were particularl interested in say a Subaru Impreza.
Would you a)Hang round subaru dealers and follow punters home.
b) Drive round looking out for them parked up
c) Goto any Railway station used by commuters. You will find at least one Impreza there these days.
or perhaps the more obvious route of...
Ring up all you local estate agents and ask for details of houses. Hope they have pictures of cars in. Go and steal car

Steven,
I know how you feel!
I live in a house thats converted into 3 flats. One of the people are selling.
One day I was walking down the highstreet and passed the estate agents that they are using, so thought I would have a look in the window to see if their place was in it - really I was trying to be nosey to see how much they were asking
Anyway, found their place and low and behold in the picture in the shop front was a picture of our place with my brand spanking new scoob on the drive.
At first I was angry but then realised that they probably dont consider stuff like that, its on view day and night anyway and if someone is gonna have a go at stealing it then it would be one hell of a coincidence if they were house hunting.
The only thing thats concerned me a bit was that it was also in the shop window, but still.....

They took the photo's of the inside of the house when we had them round to give us a quote, but I wasn't there then, so they must have come round another evening to take a photo of the outside, unfortunately when the car is there. We had nothing to sign that we were happy with the photo's and have not heard from them since the quotation, and this is one of the so called bigger estate agents. It's not the fact that thieves will specifically be looking to steal a scoob, but being advertised in the window might draw the wrong attention.
They will be hearing from me shortly to re do the outside photo.

Just to point out.
I think there is a mistake in the title of this thread.
Its Reads : How thick are SOME estate agents?
Thats should read : How thick are ALL estate agents?
The Answer is : VERY !!

I deliberately left my TypeR on the drive when I advertised my house as I thought it was a selling point, and everyone who viewed mentioned it and they always joked "is it included in the price".
