I hope he manages to beat his addiction to the booze, he deserves the same treatment as any normal punter. I also imagine he's paid his fair share of tax over the years.

I was in Chequers on friday night with my neighbour and he was drunk then - I knew someone would phone the press and that's exactly what happened. Can't believe he went back for more on the saturday and even yesterday too!

Southstar,
1. He jumped the queue as is always the case with celebs
2. If he wants to be left alone, don't stick his problems in the public's face
Just sick to the back teeth hearing about it.
Rant over.

I'd just leave him where he drops. However, I do find it disgusting the hounding by the press. Another bad example of scummy press hounds is Big Brother. Using a microphone to tell that poor bird she had been dumped ! People like that need a 'kin good kickin.
PS I don't usually watch BB but the missus had it on - addict.

If it takes say 20-30 years to ruin your liver why can't he start drinking again with his new one and have a bit of fun again?
Not true, you could ruin your liver easily in a few years, months even if you tried hard enough. Many youngsters are now apprearing before their doctors suffering from the early stages cirrhosis.
Anyway with GB its because its not his natural liver, its a graft (transplant) which will become severly damaged much quicker than normal, he is also on anti-rejection medication and anti-abuse drugs, a chemical concoction which doesnt need much alcohol to possibly kill him
IMO alcoholism is an 'illness', the government etc make millions from the sale of booze all sanctioned by the voting majority, so we should all be prepared to help those who become hopelessly addicted, if not make booze illegal. Alcohol is more dangerous than any other drug, heroin and smack included. I wish people would realise this, if booze was invented today it would be a class A.

I can't help thinking that some of the views here show a distinct lack of understanding.
I have had experience of alcoholism, and seen what it can do to an individual.
It is NOT the same thing as drinking too much at the weekend.
It is a very real illness.
I don't believe Best is an evil man who is taking advantage of people, I presume he doesn't have a death wish either.
He is not in control of his actions and therefore it's not a case of lacking willpower, he needs help.
if you feel the need to flame this post so be it, I'm not trying to say he's without blame, probably just something along the lines of diminished responsibility......

He is definitly showing a little disrespect to the donor of his liver and their surviving family.
My opinion is that their was probably a more deserving case for a transplant at that time.

Someone on here was saying how well he looked the other week.
You know why now!!!
Beer and absynth(sp?) cocktail anyone???
PS I'll be waiting in the sidelines to console his bird though, when he does eventually snuff it.

What I don't understand is why, if he wants to stay off the booze, does he hang around in pubs surrounded by people drinking? That *is* stupid.

A sporting legend and very sad to see him fall off the wagon, I always remember him being on the Mrs Merton show and she says to him about his new wife 'So george what was it that attracted you to her....apart from the duty free?'

It's a shame for him,
He is obviously ill, and knows it, but cant seem to do anything about it. (like most alcoholics)
I read in the papers that his wife is angry that the brewery shouldn't have served him alcohol, but it's not their place to refuse.
If anything his wife should be trying her best to keep him out the way of pubs.
Only hope all the publicity will shake him up a bit and make him realise.

Transplants are hard enough to find and there are plenty of people who are looking for new livers/kidneys/hearts(but never get them as others got in first) who would then look after themselves.
Best has an illness and of course needs help and assistance to get over it but ulimately it lies with him to stop. Also it's a self inflicted illness. If he drank moderately through his life like most of us do, he'd not be in the position he is in now.

All this twaddle about it being an "illlness" is merely an excuse.
Self -justifying crap peddled by alcy's in order to absolve themselves of any personal responsibility for the mess they've got themselves and their families in by their selfishly choosing to drink, and angling instead for sympathy.
No one forces them to walk into the pub, go to the bar and order alcohol, and nor isn it automatic behaviour, it is of free will, a volountary action.
Best is a self-indulgent idiot, with no respect to the person who died and gave their liver.

Many Humbug Returns - couldn't agree more.
Watching GB's wife spout on about being so angry that staff served him a drink - christ, perhaps the staff had never heard of George Best! As far as I'm aware the world does not revolve around George Best and his inability to control his drinking.
She should do better venting her anger on her husband than people who are only doing their jobs.
What a waste of a liver that probably would have gone to someone who intended to take hold of another chance they've been given. Grrrrrrrr.......

He has all the time in the world for genuine people !

People should just worry about their own lives & not stick there noses into others The press are scum !
He knows he has done wrong im sure but unlike the rest of us when he makes mistakes they are on the front page of the paper
Dont for one minute I an condoning what he has done cos im not & certainly not condoning Mrs Bests comments either, she is totally wrong !
If i was him Id stay at home with her all the time ! ( Ive seen her down the gym & If she was mine i wouldnt be leaving her anywhere )

It is really disappointing that he has fallen for the booze again. We were all hoping he had kicked it for good. Like so many people who achieved so much success and public adulation early in life, he was on the self destructive side and was impossible to control.
The person I also feel sorry for is his wife who has stood by him through the terrible times and supported him absolutely. What a terrible situation it must be for her.

People are cracking me up here about the nasty press hounding him.
He writes (or is ghost written) for 1 newspaper & 1 magazine. I don't like the press that much but look up hypocritical in the dictionary
Alas
