I was driving down the A23 into Brighton Last night and at the side of the road was a police transit with the peep hole's cut above the back windows for some kind of camera.
Was this for speeding or road tax dodging or both.

There were no camera signs up the road but i was probably speeding any ideas???

Hi GialloEvoII

A good give away if its a car tax camera is a large police presence further down the road. This will typically be one traffic car/bike with two or three panda cars with regular bobbies.

Ian

Edited to say they usually have CCTV Camera Van or something similar on the side.

I passed on of those vans in carlisle yesterday, although they weren't being very sneaky about it because the van had a huge yellow stripe down the side, the side door open and some copper doing his best steven speilberg inpression...

I think the ones with the 2 flaps at the top of the door are for the laser / video speed cameras. I thought the Tax ones were normally on a bridge and then they pulled people other further up the road ??.

We had a road tax snooper here a few weeks ago. There was a sign saying what he was up to and a fairly complicated looking set of cameras.

Definetely a speed camera. Around our way they look like AA roadside vans until it's too late, as i found out to my cost in my Tranny the other week while doing 65mph on the A142 (50mph limit for Transits on A roads). The Tax disc cameras are very distinctive, being mounted on a pedastal or in a box like stucture with tinted glass and the cops pull you over further up the road.
When the doors or windows are open on the back of a van parked by the roadside or it looks like an AA van....hit the brake pedal.

smurfy.

The tax camera vans are easy to spot. The camera equipment is normally set up next to the vehicle (rather than being in it), and it's a very distinctive style of camera - two cameras in tandem, a little like a SPECS without the biggun in the centre.

you should know better giallo, the vans normally sit near the transport cafe on the a23, or just around the next bend where you have the footie pitches on the left, or before the bend/hill where the old bp garage is and the tyre place.

Gits are always there, specially on hot weekends when brightons gonna be busy, usually white van with four flaps open.

The Tax cameras here are fully automated. they just park it and leave it there with the doors open. The cameras pick off the cars as they go by, reading the plates automatically, and same as the speed cameras, all you get is a letter through the door. ( if of course you are the registered keeper of the vehicle )
