Gah! Building Control Regs Suck!!

We are in the process of buying a house, and going to put some French Doors in in place of the dining room window. Looks like we've got to submit a Building Notice application form....and they're gonna charge us £117.50 to say yup, go ahead!

Cheers Paul.
Rev...that's true! I asked the bloke what the process is, and he said you send in the form (and money!), get their reply and then it can be put in. But....BUT...then they come out and have a look... So what are they gonna say then, then? "oops, we wuz wrong, take it out."???!!

The regulations regarding replacement windows and doors were changed recently to make one apply for Building Regulation consent. Partly due to dodgy suppliers and fitters meaning that on occasions houses were made structurally unsafe by the replacemtns, and partly due to rows caused by people using inappropraite windows in there houses.
After all we have all seen cases where in a street where all the houses have brown wood windows some bright spark installs white PVC in there house. Which not only devalues their house but all the neighbours too!

V5 - They will not say 'we wuz wrong'
They might say - It isn't safe - do it properly or your house will fall down. Building regs are supposed to protect you from dodgy builders/installers. I would believe this if they didn't charge £117.00 to call round your house and send you a sheet of paper
I recently converted to gas heating from oil and they charge £60.00 for sending a sheet of paper to tell me that it was carried out by a corgi installer. I already know he is corgi registered cos I got his name from......... corgi....

Cheers FB, I think
is the best way of looking at it.
I guess I shouldn't had, but I did LOL at your £60 Corgi paperwork!!
Must admit, seeing as the rest of the house has newish windows (previous owners didn't get round to fitting a patio door so the dining room window is ancient) we're tempted to just fit it and say it was there when we bought it!
