Get an Epson Photo printer, you can print when you want to the size you want upto A3. I have a Canon EOS digi camera with about 7 lenses now and the prints i get from the latest Epson Photo printers are a match for boots and the Epson ink is fade guaranted for 20 years. You can also use most graphic programs like photoshop and photoimpact to crop, brighten and colour balance the pic first etc.

Its great being able to take pics and then print them at the same time so crimbo guests can take home pics of them selves drunk ready for the next day

I have about 30 pics in my front room over half are from my epson the rest from boots etc many are large prints and to date not a single person has been able to tell. Epson Glossy Photo paper feals just like kodak paper. Probably cheaper as well if you take into account the time and cost to get to the local boots and back again.

Question

Hi All

I have heard the advert on the radio saying you can get proper photos from your digital camera. Has anyone done this and how much did it cost? I think boots do it but I haven't done it before.

Thanks in advance

Go to a large Boots they have a computer which will accept any type of cards or disks. Prints them stright off.

Price depends how many you need i think 1 is around 45p but it's soon down to 20p a print

I have used fujilab online (dont know the address but its probably something fairly obvious )
Quality is good, only takes 3 or 4 days for delivery. Cost depends on how many you have developed - the more you do, the cheaper it is. From memory it is something like 20p per print, but not sure exactly.

If you're going to want it done regularly buy a decent photo printer. They're not all that expensive now. Both matt and glossy photo paper is widely available online and in places like PC World, (*spit*).

I used to get results as good as Boots using an Epson photo printer and good quality photo paper in the printer.

If you go down the printer route, factor in running costs for ink cartridges.

A black cart and colour cart pair could be anything up to £50 at retail price Add in the glossy paper and it's not cheap!

Take the HP PhotoSmart P7150 which Dabs have for £115 inc VAT.

The Black cartridge is £16.45 inc VAT, the normal tri-colour is £29 inc VAT and the special photo tri-colour is £21 inc VAT.

Yes, cartridges *can* be up to £50, but many are a lot cheaper. Mine run at about £20 each and (assuming they don't dry out due to the heat of my office), it's not like they need replacing every 5 minutes, even when printing a lot of photos. Chris makes a good point though, check before buying. I tend to buy paper and cartridges online as it's usually cheaper.

Paul, like I said, it depends on how many you want to do and whether you want the option of being able to play with them yourself.

As a comparision with Epson (prices again from Dabs.com)

Stylus Photo 915 is £130 inc VAT.

Black ink is £16.45, colour is £14.10. That's bit more reasonable IMO.

I thought, and fogive me if I'm barking up the wrong tree here, but I was under the impression that digital photgraphy came about so's we could DIY ?

Since buying our digital cameras we have had oodles of fun doing all sorts of tricks with various photo suites. And it also means that we only need to print off the really needed photos. The rest can be deleted or be kept on the PC or on CD.

As for cost. Well most people need a printer for starters. Surely they print off letters etc. as well as pics? and the cartridges are cheap from online places. Paper is available from lots of different sources and at alarmingly lower and lower prices. Just a case of shopping around.

I took a CD with 80 high res pictures taken on my Nikon 995 digicam a few weeks back, I was amazed with the quality. Easily on par with my Canon SLR at 7*5 print size.

Next day service aswell, if you take them into Jessops rather than doing it online it works out much cheaper aswell.

paul, they took the photos off the card, then and there, and my dad went back an hour later to pick up the pics.

so you dont have to leave the card with them.
