I live in a cul-de-sac that parents park in to do the drop offs for the school run, One of the mums parked outside my house this morning and took her children accross the road to school.

While she was at the school a local scumbag who is well known in the area for theft etc did a smash and grab on her car and legged it with her handbag!

This was witnessed by one of my neighbours who phoned the police and gave them a statement and a description.

Later on that day my neighbour spotted the young lad who had changed his clothes and had a hair cut by then and phoned the police.

The police turned up and 'had a word' with the lad and let him go!

My neighbour questioned them as to why he was let go and was informed that even though my neighbour knew the boy that because of his change of appearance since the offence earlier that morning, he no longer matched the description given on the original statement

So we are now left with this little **** laughing his head off at us around the corner after getting away with yet another offence.

Gwent police thank you! I shall add this to the list of other useless performances I have witnessed from you.

Local Paper!!!
It REALLY is time some of the local rags started crusading against this sort of thing, and the laziness of some police forces in particular

So if they didn't find him for a week in which time he grew a beard, they could no longer arrest him? Or if he took his contact lenses out and put on glasses, he's safe?

Great....time to rob a bank, then cut and dye my hair. I'll get off scot-free.

Was it the same neighbour who saw him on each occasion?

Also - was this person/suspect "named" in either telephone call?

I'm wondering what happened here, as much as the next person.

Start a local vigilante group and kick his ***, then just make sure you tell the police you were all having a bridge evening so it couldn't have been any of you that did it.

Yep it was the same neighbour, he did not know the name of the lad but knows (as we all do) exactly where he lives

Right.... I can see this from both sides..... but I'd (personally) have lifted him on a positive ID from the neighbour, assuming one was given.

Did the neighbour point to him in the presence of the officer and suspect, and say "that was him" ... or words to that effect?

Yes he did

The update is now the lads large family and friends have now been hanging around my neighbours house

My neighbour now is getting a little disturbed by this now

I can see this getting out of hand!

The family has already been 'discussed' with a high ranking local police official yet they seem to get away with everything.

take a baseball bat to his thieving head, then run home and shave your head, stick on a groucho marx disguise kit.

Sorted.

Makes me sick.

There must be more to it than this.... as burr said, an identification is an identification.

That's one reason why the witness should have been wearing a disguise when indentifying him.

Having trouble at your own doorstep is just not worth it and because of this, fewer people get involved.

Obviously this then leads to more and more crime.
