Burglar Alarm ?

If you are talking about the external bell box, then the lack of noise could be due to a duff siren, corroded terminals, general wear and tear, a duff circuit or a combiantion. Best to change the whole bell box.
Internal to the house it is probably just a new speaker/siren required...

Its the one in the outside box.
If I need a complete new box whwere can I get one and is it easily rewired. Original suppliers are out of business so I will have to change to a different type.
Chip.

The basic connections are common between makes of bellbox, most alarm installations have 6 core cable going around the system including the external bellbox. 2 cores will be 0v and 12v, 2 cores will be for the flashing strobe and 2 will be bell trigger and tamper alarm.
Unless you know what you are doing or have some good ear defenders it may be worth getting in a reputable alarm company and paying then to replece the box. If you are interested some companies will inspect the installation and offer you a service contract if they are happy (typically £60 to £100 pa). As they would probably change the bellbox to one with their name on this may be a way of fixing it.
If you do not know any recommended companies make sure when you look for one (eg in yellow pages) they are NACOSS approved and hopefully they should not be a complete cowboy outfit.
