Nice fiction, nice Scooby ( but not as nice as my Silver STi 4 )
totally unrealistic.
The Captain resigning is a scenario that could, and has happened in the Army many times, but not from the DOG's.
Some bits are quite accurate, technical detail and that there are mostly punchy ******* . But most is to far fetched and only good for a laugh.

I agree sean. My father was based at Stirling Lines when I was young and I got to see many "interesting" things.
Managed to be at the demonstration that they did at the "fire house" for Princess Dianna. It was awsome to say the least.
My old man doesn't like watching any programmes like this as he was from the old school when it was still ery much a secret force and the public knew very little about their existance.
I never saw him during his attachment to the regiment as he was always off somewhere "Playing soldiers" as my mother put it.

Your Dad must hang his head in shame at some of the crap on the box and in print these days.
Old mate of mine told me last year there has been so much publicity that they are having to change the test procedure cos everyone knows it backwards and there are no suprises
And if they find Andy McNabb they will lynch the ******. A lad I was in Bos with his dad was on the Bravo 2 Zero patrol and died of Hyperthermia. The " true story " written by McNabb had his Mum in hysterics and his son looking to kill the **** cos his part in it made him look like a coward .
Never tried for the Regiment, worked with them a fair few times as I was MI OPINT, knew my limitations. A lot of psycho jocks seemed drawn to them though. And a 5'4" maniac from Wigan who's party piece started with " Do you fancy and arm wrestle ? ".

Wasn't it the Chris Ryan book that pinned the blame on the guy that died of hypo...??
I think McNabb's version was a bit more sympathetic to him, but not much.
Apparently, both those books are nine tenths fiction anyway...

They both dug the boot into him, but IIRC McNabbs book was first and by far the most derogatory of the two to my mates dad, the family went feckin ballistic. My mate actually was still talking and writting to Ryan when we were in Bos. I never did ask why he felt badly about McNabb and still chummy with Ryan. Funnily I knew a few Regiment boy's of that era who wanted to kill McNabb. They all felt he betrayed the Regiment.

That's right sean.
My old man never has and never will discuss the regiment to me or my family and friends.
He just dismisses every attempt to get him to open up about it.
I don't know why. I guess that he still feels that he is bound by the code of silence that he worked under then and won't budge.
I do remember when he came back from Borneo he was pretty ****ed up. Had loads of nightmares and counciling for a while. I have no idea what he got up to out there but whatever it was it effected him for quite a while.
Still, he's is out now and has been since I was 11 so now he is a very calm and balanced man - thank god.

that's the culture these days, though....'do something interesting and then write a book about it'...
One the one hand its a shame, but on the other, I'd be a hypocrite if I said I hadn't read them...

Let sleeping dogs lie mate. If he wants to open up in the future he will.
I keep a lot inside. Some you cant say to others, some you cant even say to yourself . Few would understand even if you did.
I do actually find the CWE forum quite theraputic sometimes. I can off load some thoughts and perceptions that you normally can only let go when your with old buddies from way back then.
