OK Starting up my own business so I asked a Graphic design company for a quote. Here it is, copied and pasted....
Work required:
1) Design artwork of new corporate logo
2) Design artwork and print of corporate stationery consisting of Business card and Letterhead
Logo:
XXXXXXXXX Graphic design will design the logo showing visuals and concepts to be discussed with the client. These will then be developed and once approved artwork will be developed and finalised. This will be completed for a design fee of:
Design and artwork: £600
Stationery:
XXXXXXXXX Graphic Design will design the stationery showing visuals and concepts to be discussed with the client. These will then be developed and once approved artwork will be developed, finalised and set up for print. This will be completed for a design fee of:
Design and artwork: £350
(A discount of £100 will be given if both jobs are undertaken)
Example Print Costs
Business cards inc gross laminate
A print run of 1000: £128
Compliment slips
A print run of 1000: £121
Letterheads
A print run of 1000: £153
Allow £20 for delivery
To get these good print prices the print cost must be paid for in advance before going to press.
Terms
A deposit of 1/3 of the design and artwork is required in advance
Any extra work will be charged at the hourly rate
Scanning from prints is free of charge, trannies etc is approx £15 per scan
All prices are subject to VAT
....So what do you think? Is this a fair price? The designs he sent me are good but it's the first quote and I'll probably get a couple more.
Anyway, comments please?

Very much a case of you get what you pay for, so it's hard to say if that's good or not without seeing the quality of the work.
I'd charge about the same for something like this:
Plus the letterheads etc to go with it. Comps for that logo:
Depending on how those compare with what they've done for you, you should be able to judge how good a value it is.

Knowing what I paid for a logo design, I'd say £600 sounds outrageously expensive, but if you're happy with the work, it's your call if you choose to pay it.
I don't think I would ever pay that much to have a logo designed, but I suppose it depends what it's worth to you.

Thanks for the replies. This is another company who I think I'll contact for a quote. Check out their designs. I like 'em.
