Hello,
can someone advise me:
which finger/hand whould a woman wear an engagement ring on?
what do they look like?
what would a reasonable budget be if you wanted to buy one?
As you can probably tell, I know absolutley FA about jewellery...
Cheers
Charlie

Hi Charlie
I bought my Fiance a white gold band with a single diamond set in the band (her choice), stuck it on her wedding finger (correct finger).
Have a look down Hatton Gardens, and **** yourself at the prices and also be prepared for the "I'll have that one for my wedding ring" ££££££'s hey enjoy the engagement ring first love!!
Congratulations
Dave
Edited to say expect to pay anything from £200 upwards depending on your budget and promise to marry her within 8 years (gives time to save for the wedding ring)

i got my missus one froma Jewish place in Shudehill Manbchester, not much help to you being in London but try a Jewish place, one man type of shop.
i paid £500 for a ring worth £800. they get the diamonds direct from antwerp and are experts in the field....
remember ******??? the diamond from Antwerp for the Jewish jeweller!!! well i was thinking of that when i went to see this guy and it nearly made me p*ss me sides

Take her round "window shopping" first and get an idea of what style she likes, and how must she is expecting you to spend. That way you will get her something she wants and you can also have a go at "setting her expectations" while your at it.
Remember, when you come to buy it you will need her ring size, so need a way of getting that without her knowing.

The original tradition was to spend a month's salary on the ring, but it's generally accepted that in these days of higher disposable income, two months' is better.
I had my wife's engagement ring made from a design I'd thought about for 2-3 years beforehand, and chose the stones myself.

Little hint, usually the same finger on the other hand is the same size as the wedding finger.
And congratulation - have you thought about how you are going to drop the question??

We have already discussed in loose terms getting married. As we have been living together for years it doesn't have the "shock value" that it might in other situations. Anyway, my plan is to arrange a meal in a nice restaurant and invite both lots of parents as well as half a dozen of our best friends and then lay the ring on her. And also tell the oldies that she's pregnant .
I will have to find some way of getting her ring size. Can't really think of any non giveaway method of going about this. And you can stop sniggering at the back.
Thanks for all the advice, people.
Charlie.

I worked with someone who did that - christmas day he proposed to her in front of the whole of their families.
She dumped him 4 weeks later as she only said yes so he'd save face infront of all their relatives.

If she loves you as much as you obviously love her, then she isn't going to grouch about the price of the ring. Go together to choose it.
Third finger , left hand by the way. Good Luck

I put the same post up a few months ago and ended up visiting legitimate scoobynet friend of friend in Hatton Garden... I learnt all about diamonds in the interim and realised that the chapo in question was full of sh*t, despite being a cousin of a well known person on here. He tried to sell me a £10k diamond that I reckon was worth £2k! He was selling rough rubbish stones.
Good luck and be very careful where you end up getting it from.

As an additional point, do not rely on corresponding fingers on different hands being the same size. If someone is right handed, the fingers of their right hand tend to be slightly larger than the fingers of their left hand. This is certainly the case for me. I have a ring I can wear on the third finger of my left hand, but it's too small to wear on the third finger on my right hand.

Just to be equally annoying, I can wear the same size ring on the third finger of either hand. LOL
Has she not got a best mate you can confide in about her ring size?
I think you would be better taking her along to choose it with you in all honesty, but good luck with it all. Sounds lovely what you are planning to do.
