Anyone out there got any experience dealing with cooldiamonds.com or buying a loose diamond for an engagement ring in general?

I would like to buy a brilliant cut diamond under one carat and so far prices I have seen have varied wildly and given that the 'market price' of diamonds is supposed to be USD based, you sometimes get the feeling that you might be being ripped of if you pay in GBP's or whatever.

Hatton Garden in London seems to be a good place to look but as with most things in Britain, it pays to shop around and there must be some reputable places in the USA where you could buy a loose diamond and take advantage of the weak USD. Rude not to!

Thanks south-star but I don't know if those threads qualify as a 'full debate' :P !

I didn't search that far back either as I have been on Scoobynet since '99 under a different ID and I knew there wasn't much on the topic.

Thanks anyway.

So then. Has anyone else used Cooldiamonds.com? or another on-line supplier of loose diamonds?

www.diamond-info.org has some good info and links but so far the best site I have found www.bluenile.com won't ship internationally (from the US).

My thanks in advance for any info.

Saw this company a while ago that forwards mail to you, http://www.myus.com/about, don't know if it would help, also never tried them so don't know what the service is like.

Have you tried the Jewellery Quarter in Birmingham?

Kernowcraft sell loose diamonds.

It's Waxboy here under my original ID...

Thanks GU5 (hadn't thought about mailforwarding!) and Mice_Elf for the Birmingham link but it appears to be mainly costume and semi-precious stones. I, or should I say she, wants the real McCoy!
