How long does it take to bond to a child
#1
Just been blessed with a baby daughter 2 days ago....how long does it take to bond
I have had to return to work really quickly and I am not missing seeing her...I am feeling guilty
Any Dad's out there who've felt the same? Is this normal to feel like this...does it take time to get the bond. I guess it's different for fathers than mothers being the mother has carried the child?

depends whetehr you are using superglue or epoxy resin... seriously though, i remember a mate's child arriving and the first months he didn't seem too bothered. this soon changed as the kid started to develop - i wouldn't worry too much.

Hello
As above. It really takes as long as it takes. Mothers do have a closer tie to the child as it's been inside them for 9 months. However it takes Mothers sometimes months (or never in fact!) to bond as well.
If most people are honest, this little screaming, pooping thing is a huge disruption to their life and it takes a while to get over that before the bonding can start.

Wait till you got four mate
Each one was different, its my youngests 2nd birthday today and he was different to my eldest who is 18 next month. Just take time and let nature do its thing.
God help you though my eldest is a girl, nothing but aggro

If it makes you feel any better the same things happen to women too! When i had my son, I had no bond and no maternal feelings for at least a week! I used to look at him in his cot and think he couldn't possibley be mine because I felt nothing. Suddenly, everything clicked into place and it was great but I was very worried for the first week or so! Give it time, it'll happen!

thanks red dog
I guess the most important thing at the moment is the Mum has bonded with her
I will just take some time for me. It doens't help that I need to go back to work to pay the bills. If I was minted I'd have stayed at home longer

dont worry zero to 60 the day she smiles at you, you will think the sun has just shone for the first time.
TBH the day mine was born i thought "oh **** now youve done it no more nights out no more weekends away no more sleep".
but it didnt last too long and thank god he sleeps from 10 pm to 8 am every night.

Probably didn't "neme" him at all, Jase.
Zero - just spend time with your daughter and let yourself get used to her. If this is your first it will be a huge shock.

Just takes a bit of patience 0 to. Keep showing her affection when you get the chance, and don't try to be anything different to what you are. It won't be long before she starts to know who you are and then it is all worth it.
