I will soon be selling my Type R due to the running costs and longer trips I am now doing
Starting to think what to replace it with and so far considering a Civic Type R (will be under warrenty should anything go wrong) or a 2000 BMW 328Ci. Two completly different cars I know but can't put up with something too slow but could also do with something nice and comfortable on longer motorway trips (hence the BMW).
What kind of MPG would I get out of a Civic Type R? Plus how noisy are these on the motorway?
From what I gather I could get on average 30mpg out of the BMW?
Thought about the Clio 172 also but think this would be bit too small considering the motorway driving I will be doing.
Budget up to £16K.

What about a Leon Cupra R, you could probably get a new one for just a bit more, they are nice and quick, comfy and not too bad on fuel (better than my Scoob anyway !).
30mpg from a 328 (only if you drive like my granny ) plus the boot is about as big as a shoe box (with the shoes in it !),
Civic, good car, reliable but probably a bit noisy on long runs.
What about a Golf VR6/ 4 motion, brother in law just picked a 2 year old fully loaded 12k for £16k, (bit lardy for me though)
All IMHO of course.

Oh no doesn't have to be new. If went for a BMW I wouldn't be able to get a new one of them
Just looking for some more/new ideas really. Give me something to look into.

For that sort of money you should be able to get a old E36 M3 convertible. Fast enough, as it would probably be fairly close to a standard scooby, comfort, well its a BMW. Also good style especially in the summer, and loads of room for whatever you need.

for that sort of money a Cupra R is a good possibility, the performance is nearly there with the scoobs and thanks to the 6 speed box the mpg aint too bad on the M-Way (30-33mpg when driven at around 80-ish) plus it has all the creature comforts like climate control.
Also have you thought about the A3 1.8T? The perfromance isn't bad and they are really quite comfortable cars.

83Mpg oooh now you’re talking
My girl friends dads just got an A4 so I couldn't really get one of them now could I, I mean im only 24
Had look at prices of the M3 but I don't think they are much better, if any, on fuel. Wouldn't mind one though! plus most of the ones I have seen are quite high on the mileage front.
Keep the ideas coming

What mpg could I expect from them BMW then? must be better than me scoob anyway. Ain't bothered about boot space as I got nowt to put in it
Leon mmmmmm looks a bit........well naff I think. Never really paid much attention to them though
Mate of mine has a VR6. Ain't too great on the old jungle juice going by what he says plus I think golfs tend to be a bit wobbly when it comes to the bends well the one I have driven does.
Can't see my self in a Skoda I will never live it down

Does it have to be new?
If not, how about a Corrado VR6? Nicely put together, & good engines etc. I'd rather have one of them then the golf.
Or the Golf GT-Tdi? 150 odd bhp etc, & probably quite good on the motorway, I would imagine.
If you don't mind being a volvo driver....C70 coupe?
Top gear says about 29.4 mpg for the 325Ci and 29ish for the 330Ci, so should be around that.

Good eh? Kinda like a Citroen BX. but..er..probably better.
65 mpg though!
Other suggestions were serious though...
Could try an Audi A4 perhaps, but I always thought they were a bit lacking in character, much like a BMW.
Alfa 156?
I was wrong. 83mpg, in fact. not convinced, are you?
