Before the race today Randy Mamola was talking to Ferrari test driver Luca Badoer regarding the speeds Ducati were acheiving down the main 1.1km straight at Mugello.

Loris Capirossi & Troy Bayliss on their Ducatis ware doing about 330kph and exiting the corner at around 120kph, the F1 cars exit at nearer 200kph but "only" acheive around the same 330kph before having to brake.

That's some serious acceleration!

240bhp and weigh around 150kg, that is amesome power to weight!!

Yeah and the Bikes do something else that you never see in F1...

I personally hate bike racing, but when it comes to the street racing, i'm absolutely captivated. TT riders and the like must have steel *****.

I won't want to be a passenger with Mamola on that two seater Ducati GP bike.

It was an awesome race. Interesting that Baylis, Edwards and Haga are having real problems keeping up.

As for comparing Moto GP and F1 I reckon bike racing is far more entertaining. As Leo Sayer said Bikes are where it's at these days.

Bayliss has more points than Capirossi and Colin and Nori are riding an Aprilia (and achieving more than any Aprilia rider before them). IMO not too shabby at all.

It's funny, whenever I hear the name Baylis I always thing of that old bloke who invented the wind up radio, hard to imagine him tearing round the track LOL

Yep -- 240BHP, 150KG, a contact patch no bigger than a credit card, no f*ck*ing traction control, no ship-to-shore comms ... just pure racing.

It's funny, even Martin Brundle seems to be getting peeved with F1 now, his Monaco GP commentary was full of comments about "having interesting racing instead of interesting pit-stop strategies".
