hello mate - I used to road race, up until the mid-late 90s. I rode in West Thames div, with a club called Thames Velo, although I was down riding the surrey league events regularly.
I had a big stack over the finish line after a bunch sprint in a race up near Tring, which broke my collarbone and damaged some nerves in my leg (still got 8th place though ) and I never really got back into racing after that, although I did recover that season and raced again a few more times. Then worked got busy so I packed in. Hardly ride all these days...
There's another chap on here (called 'Brooks') who rides - I think he still races. I'm sure he'll be along in a while....

oddly, the stack just made it worse. I had a good winter and was going really well that season and well on the way to my 2nd cat licence when I got sidelined. Six weeks later I was back on the start line and getting dropped for two weeks before I was back on form again. Didn't get my cat2 licence though..

I don't actually race, I just ride on the road, mainly by myself. Luckily I haven't fallen off (although I had a few nasty ones when I was into mountain biking). I've had my road bike now for nearly two years and I love it. As I said, I was into MTB's before but I found myself riding it on the road 95% of the time with slick tyres on it. Getting the road bike has totally changed my cycling. It's so satisfying to cover big distances quickly. People think it's boring, but I think it's great.

I used to mix road and MTB occasionally. Road was where its at, as no matter how much flash kit you have, if you don't have the legs, you'll get nowhere.
I first got into cycling seriously while I was trying to keep match fit for squash...until I discovered I liked cycling better...

Get some fat tyres, and have some off-road fun.
There's a fair few MTBers on SN, some of whom are roadies. TBH, I don't like riding on the road (too many nutters in Scoobs to knock you off ).

yeah - everytime I go in the garage and see my old Dave Russell 653 gathering dust, I think about going back out again, but I never do.
PS - got a set of Mavic GEL330 rims built onto Ultegra 8/9sp hubs, fitted with Vittoria CX tubs hanging in the garage still...wanna buy em?
