It has been brought to my attention and now I am mystified.... On my mail and yours to , in the address window underneath your postcode is a five digit number. It appears in the bottom right hand corner of the " window ". Whats more intriging is that it is the same code although it appears on all differing sorts of mail i.e. credit card applications / bank stuff / tescos stuff etc etc. Phone calls to all these companies have revealed nothing and thgey seem happy to palm me off with a rather naff excuse. Royal Mail have denied all knowledge as its inside the envelope. When you get home have a look at your mail and I guarantee you`ll find it there. WHAT IS IT THERE FOR ????????? anyone know ?

You will probably find it is a reference no for a marketing company/Mail Shot agency who has given your name to lots of seperate companies

B5 - just checked - It appears on a phone bill, a rates bill a credit card bill, all from different sources, signed up at different times. All the stuff I can find has the same number. It isn't address related as my wifes stuff has a different number....

I didn't know before I put my number plus my home town in Google and it came up with the answer, but I had always wondered too, just hadn't got around to finding out.
