New Toy - Thomson PVR

With Tivo the subscription is for the TV listings so that you can browse for programs to record & set 'season passes' to record programmes whenever they're on.
How does this thing work then - presumably more like a traditional VCR ?
Sounds quite cool though - storing photo's on the disk will appeal to lots of people with digital cameras & no PC !

Yeah, it's much more like a traditional VCR, but it also downloads schedule information direct from Teletext, so you can just 'point & click' on programs to set up record timers, as well as setting them up manually. And of course you can do 'time slip' (i.e., pause a program and continue watching/recording at the same time later on).
I got it 'cos we're unlikely to get digital in the near future where I am (ruling out the Pace Twin) and although TiVo's good, it's impossible to get hold of one now, and I don't want to pay out the monthly subs fee (same reasons for not getting Sky+).
The only downside appears to be the lack of support for SVCD disks, but it's not a major problem (hopefully a future firmware update might improve on that). Uploading MP3s and photos to the HDD is very cool though.
There's even a remote-control hack to make the DVD player region free.

Nimbus - £399 from www.unbeatable.co.uk. Argos are also doing them for the same price, but they're out of stock right now. Only available in Silver....
There's a review of it here.
Clean what, Telboy?
